Handy player in a super side.
His name change from Jarrod to Max will forever taint him

So paying homage to his recently deceased grandfather by going by his own middle name instead of his first name will taint him will it?

Please inform us how this will taint him

Is there video of this? I remember it well, and a procession of Roos whining about it. Massive beatup over nothing, there was zero malice in that contest.

Not going to derail the thread, and also I have no problem with threads like this (which at times really should be confined to team boards) but really think posting video upon video of his toughness is over the top. Don't really think it's truly reflective of his career.

But in that particular instance, there was no malice, but there was also no duty of care whatsoever - that isn't toughness.

Like I already said, he went in hard but also was at times rather sloppy in his execution.

Good on him though, he's a premiership player.

Do yourself a favour and stop biting at obvious bait.

Great career by Rooke. Tough as nails and played his role in one of the best outfits in recent memory.

All the best to him in retirement.

First video should have been a free kick against rooke, didnt have eyes on the ball.
Second video, decent courage but players do this every week.
Third video says more to me about the fact clark has no self-awareness or football brain. Any opponent would have caught him for holding the ball.

Rooke was a good player, tough. But just like campbell brown, his 'toughness' has been blown out of proportion.

All I remember from his career was him dribbling the ball through the goal after the siren in the 09 Granny

you should watch the last 4 minutes of that GF, then you'll know why cat's supporters rate him.

I take it you have never seen the 2009 Grand Final. Do yourself a favour and watch what Max did in that game. Without Max Geelong loose that game.

For this reason the man will always be a bastard who should have retired earlier, in fact he should take more with him this year, go on Chappy, you know you want to as well. :p

Game ultimately needs more people willing to just cannon into a contest with almost wild abandon and disregard to self preservation, the desperation which comes from such efforts is rather contagious and is what made Rooke a joy to watch.

Good luck to the man but he's still a bastard.

A lot of respect for this man.

He did a lot of the grunt work an unspectacular but necessary things a successful team needs in order to be successful and he did them better than most.

To the champions go the accolades of the populace but I think real football fans understand that when Rooke was at his peak how important he was for Geelong. He however needed to be fully fit to be at his best and his last couple of years have let him down in that regard lowering his value to the base supporter.

A quality player, helped make Geelong what it was on and deserves his platitudes.

Went the ball just as Power did. Never once saw Rooke play the man.

One of the opposition players I would like to have seen for a few more years. Always like how he went about it and how he made sure he had an impact.

Played well as a defensive forward the last two seasons. Was pretty good in front of goals.

Classy contribution HP. Thought you might be bagging him as soft but I was wrong. You're better than I thought.

For myself, congratulations Max Rooke. 2 time premiership player in one of the best teams in recent times. Continued selection in a team this good is recognition in itself, unfortunate that injury has dictated his retirement. Best of luck in your future endeavours.

Yep, my favourite outside of Freo. Loved watching him play, except against us obviously. More often than not he'd line up on Headland and absolutely make him s*** himself! Des did not want to know about getting the ball whilst Rooke was around. I wished for many years that we had someone like him. Soloman filled the role late in the piece but for years we had no one.

All the best to him.

He'll always be Jarad to me.

To echo others, his grand final in 2009 was spectacular. Chapman wouldn't have kicked that winning goal without Rooke's work off the ball. One of the most desperate shepherds I've ever seen.

Nor would he have kicked his second, in the third quarter. Check out Rooke's work off the ball there too.

Big fan of Max, thought he was a great footy player who was always hard at it and had the best hair/beard in the league. Just looking at him you get intimidated.

bad luck with the injuries
