Had a bad night did young Spock tonight. Hopefully he returns bigger and better next year when he bulks up a bit. I hope Eade doesnt drop him just because he had an off night because we need to blood young blokes for finals footy.

I hope he is not a scapegoat for some shit performances from the more experienced guys. There is half a dozen I would drop before Grant.

I will be watching him with keen interest next week. How he rebounds from tonight will be a measure of the player. He certainly learned a lot from his first game against Carlton last year.

No way should he be dropped after tonight. He kicked 6 goals and was BoG only 7 days ago.

I was annoyed to hear that Eade had mouthed the word "selfish" (according to the commentary) after his sprint and shot at goal in the third quarter. Grant's problem has been that he has been too keen to give the ball off when he should be nailing the goals himself. I'm sure a few at the club would have talked to him about this. It would be fickle to now call him selfish just because he went for home when in the clear. Higgins was the option in front of him I think, but Higgins was losing every contest at that stage so it was probably a sensible choice from Grant.

For the record:

a) I can lipread. Eade said: "F#$%king selfish"

b) Higgins was 15m clear of any other player, 35m out from goal. There wouldn't have been a contest for him to lose.

c) Grant decided to take the shot when he was about 55m out (was a few metres closer when he actually kicked the ball). He has shown no ability to kick further than 45 so far. So it was a risky kick.

To be honest, I don't think it was his finest moment, or night. But i completely agree that he shouldn't be dropped. Sure, his game sucked. But he only solidified his place in the team this year. It's all part of the learning curve. Both him and Jones absolutely should be in the team, as far as I'm concerned.

Having said that he should get his butt kicked this week, and told to start chasing again. Some very half-hearted efforts there tonight.

Good post.

It doesn't matter if someone is struggling all night, if they're in the right spot you give it to them.

And Grant wasn't in a position this evenning to be determining who he's giving the footy to based on output. And he never should be.

If Spock is dropped for being 'selfish' then what about Johno, Gia, Cross, Boyd, Higgins who are either playing injured, or show no accountability whatsoever. If that isn't flipping selfish I don't know what is!

Bloody double standards for these old blokes.

This is why guys like Moles Wood Hill and Everitt come in and out of our side, our senior players can get away with anything but the young blokes get jumped on as soon as they put a foot wrong. I'm all for keeping a steady team for the year but at this rate it just gives senior players a reason not to step up.

FFS Grant only played his second game this season and it's his first ever final.
