Autopsy The 2017 AFL Grand Final - What did you like, learn or hate?

I've said this many times in the past - and I didn't think I'd get to say it about Richmond.

The aim of the game is to win the Grand Final. To do that, you have to qualify for it by making the finals and winning finals.

If you get there, but don't win the GF - by definition, you aren't the best side for the year. If you think Adelaide were the best side this year, you're thinking about it wrong.

The best side is the one that is good enough to make the finals, good enough to win their finals and good enough to win the Grand Final.

Yeah and I do agree with you to an extent. It's black and white that the team that wins the flag can claim to be best in the comp because that's the objective of the comp.

But it's also pretty clear that the best team across the season doesn't always peak on the last Saturday in September.

And that's the difference. Much like the Bulldogs in 2016, Richmond were the best team in September, albeit not the best team across the year.

He had 22 of his 29 by three quarter time. What a load of shit.

So you're saying Martin had 3/4 of his touches by 3/4 time.. insightful.

Was behind Houli and Crouch by a distance. Well highlighted by numerous commentators.

Very much agree. Love tackling, pressure chasing etc. Love it.

This. My team would do well to learn from it. We are a high tackling side which is good, but it’s not as aggressive as what Richmond showed today. I like that we try to ‘play the game as it should be played’ but it is easy to do that when you have the side we had from 07-11. Now that we lack that class, we’ve got a side not dissimilar to the Tigers - a couple of head and shoulders standouts in the middle and some level talent elsewhere. What we don’t have is a Rance, and the extra gear of aggression the Tigers showed throughout the finals. Hopefully Scott takes a bit of that onboard.

You said he had a lot of it late when the game was won. I just showed you categorically that he had an even spread prior to and including the late stages of the game. So yeah, better to be ‘faux insightful’ than just ‘incorrect.’

Oh, and if some commentators - the blokes who get bagged every second for the crap they spout - are saying it, it must be true.

You ok? Been a big day?

I originally said Dusty played very well but wasn't best on ground. Literally every player ratings system backs that up comprehensively. Human error by the judges, sucked in to the hype.

Best side for the last 8-9 weeks.

Second to the ball team? The ****? Smashed them by about 30 contested possessions

Did you quote the wrong post? I haven't said the phrase "second to the ball" ever.

Loved the fact we beat convincingly the 3 teams above us in the finals.
And operating at 75% in the GF we beat the top ranked side by 8 goals.
And houli, thanks for a ripper.
And grimes for quitely blocking out a danger forward.
And vlaustin for quickly getting over a poor start showing some grit.
And Nank for hanging in there and finally tearing it up.
And Balmey for bringing back some common sense and calm to the footy department.
And to the game style - hard unrelenting and eventually grinding opponents into the turf.

Like the Bulldogs in 2016, Tigers took their chance with both hands and made the most of it.

Well done to them.

Adelaide were exposed, and I'm not sure there's much improvement in them from here.
I'd be inclined to say they've peaked, and could head backwards from 2018
Bring back Peter Sassegum

What? Maybe have another one and drive home champ..

Richmond were by far the best team today, that's no contest. But they weren't the best side this year and the rest of your statement is jibberish
They are the best side because they won the flag. Thats what it is all about. That is all that matters.

If the other 17 clubs have got any brains at all - they will show the last 2 and a half quarters of that game to their players - and say - among other things - re Richmond- thats the attack on the ball we need - thats the ferocious unrelenting pressure - youve got to bring -if you want to win big finals . You can get away with a few things in home and away games to a certain extent - but if you cant cope with intense pressure - then you will buckle in the finals

I learnt that the captain of the Adelaide football club is a very poor loser and his speech was a disgrace to all supporters of the Adelaide football club...

The coaches reaction while the speech was going on was enough to confirm his disgust as well!
What did you want him to say? To be fair to him, he didnt play well and looked like he wanted to crawl into a hole. You cant judge him as being a poor loser based on that.

riewoldt and martin saying the f bomb. was awesome.

however caroline wilson hasnt said shit the same way wce players quentin lynch said it in 2006.

caroline wilson if youre reading this go **** yourself. youre the biggest ****en hypocrite in the world. the only reason why i didnt want richmond to win a premiership is because of you. **** you you campaignerhag.

I couldn’t care less. I’m going by what I saw. When it was tough, he found targets, cleared the ball, and was the best decision maker on the ground.

This. Said almost identical to what you’ve written somewhere else. We upped our pressure significantly this year and it paid off in part, but we didn’t have the raw aggression Richmond did. I hope we find it.
