The 2018 Footy Show - will there be a 2019 version?

I think the toughest thing for the Footy Show at the moment is it has a bit of an identity crisis.

Is it a 'serious' show that features breaking news, analysis of teams and the weekend ahead or is it an AFL themed comedy/variety program.

If it wants to be a AFL themed comedy/variety program, it needs to refresh itself and look at fresh concepts on humour rather than just repeating the same stuff year-on-year. Sam Newman's not funny anymore, his non-pc humour, letter bag and Street talk has been seen for years and is no longer fresh and interesting. Same could be said for Brownless & Crawford's material.

Instead they should be looking at some of the comedians on the scene that discuss Footy and look at it from different perspectives. Get personalities like Wil Anderson (Triple M, 2 Guys 1 Cup) , Danny McGinlay (Former Doggies Banner Man , Adam Rozenbachs (Junktime AFL), Michael Chamberlin (Junktime AFL), Tegan Higginbotham (AFLW, Fox Footy), Aaron Gocs (YouTube), Brad Holis (Yeh Goodboy Goodboy Good Footy Energies) to rotate through the program regularly and try and match the more 'modern' AFL style humour that the Front Bar has done successfully over the past year.
Agree with the sentiment but Aaron Gocs? Really?

The last time I watched the Footy show with any kind of interest was at least 10 years ago. It was never the same after Eddie left the first time.

I am a big fan of Eddie, but I don't think anything can save the Footy show. I just can't watch it anymore.

When the Footy Show began around 20 years ago, the general public were in need of a show which gave us the teams on a Thursday night, any updated footy news, and a bit of humour to cap it off. It was a recipe for success and must viewing for footy fans.

However, over the years, social media has phased it out. The public became aware of breaking news as it happened, and by the time the Footy Show started, we had already become aware of our teams. The show then needed to rely upon the humour which unfortunately wasn't so good you needed to watch. Having players on the panel was a good idea 20 years ago but they are so limited in what they can say these days, they may as well have cardboard cut outs sitting there instead.

TFS has needed to stumble upon a completely fresh format for a number of years now. It is surviving because the faithful are hanging in there, hoping for something magical to happen, but the show is dead. IMHO, football panel shows are on the way out. People are looking for something different these days.

What is happening on the Footy Show tonight its like a dogs breakfast. What happened to Swanny? He was there at the opening of the show, then vanished, and Shaun Higgins is doing game reviews. Was Swanny only a guest? Sam is finished, l dont think 9 should renew his contract for next year, he is just out of the loop of whats going on in the show, it looks so unprofessional.

Cue the outrage :

Sam just he is going to take her home after the show.

I’m shocked. Outraged. Offended! Someone must pay to placate my rage !
