Just finished Somky Joe's Cafe by Bryce Courtenay. Brilliant book about a group of returned Vietnam Vets trying to do some good.

WTF? That is so bad? Can you get a refund out of it?

They're going to replace the books, but I have to go through the hassle of sending them back to the UK.

The Sydney Gateway Facility helpfully put a sticker on the box noting that they arrived wet in Australia, so the fault was clearly with their courier.

Oh well, time to raid the local library...

"Two for the Money" by Max Allen Collins. Very much like Richard Stark's Parker, but a fast-paced, non-stop action read, and Collins can write

Thats good to hear. I have his book 'The Quarry' in a big pile of books that i am trying to get through.

Just finished reading 1/3 of Richard Laymon's 'Cuts' before i binned it for being one of the worst piles of garbage i have picked up.

Trust me. He's a good as writer. Doesn't mince word. Great writing style and interesting way of retelling a story. You won't be disappointed. Also won a few awards and was considered one of the most anticipated book for the year that it released.
These books are killer, got into them while waiting for ADwD. I recommend them to anyone.

I just finished my ASoIaF reread, waiting for the next book now. Haven't read much else except crappy airport fiction (Lee Child etc) for the last few months.

No, I just haven't been reading much except on the planes back and forth, hence airport fiction. I'm not as cultured as you, I must admit.
I am a Giants fan afterall.

Anyone know if aDwD is being released at the same time across the globe? Might preorder off amazon if not...

There is a rumour it is being released early here. The HarperCollins website lists Australia release date as July 1st, rest of world is July 12th.

I can't understand why this would be the case but I'm hoping it's true.

It's a double book, with Pornografia in the latter half. Cosmos translated by Eric Mosbacher, Pornografia translated by Alistair Hamilton.

Just note that both Mosbacher and Hamilton translated from the French and German translations, and not from the Polish. If you like the books, it's probably worthwhile trying to track down the recent translations from the original Polish by Borchardt.

It was hard enough finding this version, think I'll stick with it.

It's coming good though. Started out sounding odd, which i think is based on the translation, and there are a few publishing/printing/editing errors which is a shame but it's not too bad.
