I reckon Flemo is juuussstt starting to irritate me by seasons end.... Don't get me wrong, he's nowhere near the level of "Slats" but of all the BBL commentators he & MWaugh are prob the 2 that are starting to grate a little after a few months. Not horribly, just starting to slightly annoy me every now & then.
Fleming used to be good but has turned into a try hard, he's about half as funny as what he thinks in his own mind. Still better than most of the knobs on 9 though.

Author lost me as soon as he started comparing Chappelli unfavourably with Warne.

Chappell's endless reminiscing, while very annoying on occasion, is still infinitely better than what Warne produces IMO. Yes, when Warne actually talks in depth about the game or spin bowling he is very interesting, but that is such an infrequent sideshow to the usual fare of repeatedly criticising whichever player/tactic he's taken a set against that day, or trying to find the next Darryl, or talking about how many pizzas he demolished...

Chappell has his weird moments but really unfair to compare him to Warne. Warne, Slater, and KP are the 3 that come to mind that would watch their own performances. In that classic catch with Ricky Ponting, Warne talked about how he bowled it more than the catch itself. Come to think of it we don't see many Heals and Tubbs highlights (positive ones at least).

I don't agree that much with the article.

Some posters' attitudes towards Chappell amazes me. He is not some relic from the dim dark old days, he is a pioneer of the modern age of cricket, a man who had the balls to stand up against cricket officialdom and fight for players' rights.

Packer knew this, and that's why he dragged him out of retirement to head up the Australian WSC team. Apart from being one of the very best Australian Test batsmen I ever saw, he's also IMHO the best captain as well. He has been a wonderful servant to the game of cricket in Australia, and if he wants to come on and tell stories of a bygone era, then I welcome him doing just that.

At least Chappell talks about cricket. It's funny that people criticise the others for NOT talking cricket, and then get stuck into Chappell when he DOES. So, if Johnny-come-lately supporters don't want to hear him, tough. There's plenty of others who do. This is TEST cricket, and the history of the game is every bit as relevant as today's game.

Advice: Try actually listening to Chappell instead of whingeing about him .... you may actually learn something.

Everyone is aware of Chappell's pedigree and what he did for Australian cricket. No one is begrudging him of that. Just that his stories are just out of sync with what's happening or his style of thinking in terms of cricket is kind of outdated. A lot of things have changed from the 1970's to now in terms how sport is approached (thanks to him and the rest for starting the movement), types of players and tactics.

2 overs in: Mark Nicholas "Australia wouldn't want the middle order coming in at 3-50"

10 overs in: Michael Clarke "Australia's middle order has been their strength in the short form"

Those two statements aren't necessarily incompatible.

But I want to hear more stories about Les, the groundsman at the Adelaide Oval.

It feels like we all try (including myself) to poke holes on C9 because of some bad moments (Pizza poll) and then ride with it. Other countries have it bad. Simon Doull + Ian Smith for NZ, India is just a cluster**** where Ravi Shastri even has his own Tracer Bullet competition, South Africa have a few people who are dull and have their own weird banter moments, England have Vaughan and Botham who I swear the latter doesn't even like cricket and there is Agnew who goes on about the spirit of the game, West Indies don't even have Holding for their own matches, Pakistan has Rameez Raja and Wasim Akram. Sri Lanka and B'Desh don't get enough coverage.

Every country has its flaws. We just love to poke holes on ours like Chappeli's old stories which I have bagged out, or Healy just mismashing words or stupid polls or Slats going fanboy or Clarke sounding like he is reciting lines for a video game.

So yeah kind of over the articles. Geoff Lemon did a great piece. These are just horribad.

The comments on the article are x100 worse than here in BF.

We just be grateful than the C9 commentators at least will call out Australian players. Indians can't. Where is Harsha Bhogle anyway?

Having lived in the UK for a couple of years I'd take their broadcasters (Sky and BBC) over the Channel 9 mob any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

It really is becoming quite pathetic from the media
Every Journo wants to try and replicate the Geoff Lemon article from the Guardian and most are failing miserably.

Whilst it is getting repetitive, it's utter dogshit that in this day and age people who are paid professionals for their knowledge fail to put the effort in to pronounce a player who has been around for the best part of a decade (how else can you say Guptill anyway, really?) and be that ignorant to mistake Matt (a reasonable successful test and ODI bowler) for Scott (domestic shield specialist journeyman opening batsman) Henry.

Would be nice if they were creative enough to come up with a new way to make their point, but the point needs to be hammered home as it's pretty pathetic we're still being subjected to this.

Yeah but has anyone ever heard Ian smith commentate over in a NZ home series? One particular series when Zimbabwe had just been reinstated as a test nation and NZ started hammering them and he was going off and carrying on like they were the greatest cricket team that ever lived, poor old Zimbabwe, I think my local club could've had them 4/12 at that point too
