CHANNEL 9 has been roasted for failing to make any changes to its commentary panel for the summer of cricket.

The network’s Ashes commentary team was unveiled at North Sydney Oval on Friday, where not one new face was revealed in the famed commentary line-up.

The network has particularly been criticised for failing to include any women’s commentators in the squad which will call the 2017-18 Series, beginning with the First Test at the Gabba on November 23.

I'm sorry but.... What? This pisses me off.
It's a men's Sport. Let the women call the women's game.

Maybe this is my biased opinion because I am a "white male" as the PC brigade say these days but no bloke this summer is gonna be sitting on the couch with a beer in their hand and say "**** I wish they had a woman calling this game"

I know some of us don't like the 9 commentary team but it's traditionally been a boys club and we all saw what happens when you mess with a boys club for the sake of political correctness a la the footy show.

WHY IS THERE SUCH AN OUTRAGE OVER THIS?
Let's be honest primarily males will tune into the men's ashes this summer.

I don't get why the world keeps ignoring facts for the sake of "diversity"

But my opinion doesn't matter much these days as a man.
Thoughts?

It's nothing to do with PC, for the most part they are terrible at calling the game.

I agree. I got sick of listening to the girl doing "special comments" on Triple M Football this year. I regularly turned over, but I wanted to hear Brendan Fevola's farkups :D

Don't forget Kerry Packer's old MO: do almost anything to keep attracting a new viewers, even if the coverage is dumbed right down and broadened to be "super" all-inclusive, because the rusted-on fans will still watch, no matter what

I really enjoy that female British commentator they had on ABC radio last year.

she would be great to hear on channel 9 to freshen it up a bit imo.

edit-

Alison Mitchell is her name

I'm glad there are no women joining the team because it would have been a token inclusion and I'll bet London to a brick it would have been Lisa Sthalekar who IMO is the worst of all the female commentators going around. Bad enough that I had to put up with her on both the TV and the radio during the women's Ashes.

Diversity ain't such a dirty word. The reason 9's Golden Age commentary team was so iconic is because each of the members had a distinct voice (literally, but also in the sense of their outlooks on the game). You lose a lot of that when it's wall-to-wall Healy-Clarke-Warne-Slater for hours on end. That's four guys with the same whiney monotone cracking the same bad jokes while calling for an aggressive declaration. Maybe we only need three of them? I'd have no problem if they replaced Slats with a woman, a Pom, or dead ****ing air.

It was slightly less shit?

WHY IS THERE SUCH AN OUTRAGE OVER THIS?

Because Lawry and Warne are the only two who have ever been good at commentating, and even then far below international standards esp. the BBC.

What "facts" are you referring to?

Sky-Warne is good, Nine-Warne not so much
