What are the reasons for the low crowd numbers?
I'm sure a lot of people just dont enjoy the game as much anymore.

Me personally, it's now a horrible game to watch live. It's like watching an Auskick game with everyone just chasing the ball around, the umpiring is at an all time low with these new free kicks and rules brought in being ridiculous. Plus the sounds and lights(especially at Marvel) they smash you with is just too over the top.

I'd rather go watch a country game nowadays.

Worry about your own minnow clubs. We average the biggest home crowds in the comp this season.
Hi floggo.

Jog on. Visit specsavers too.
Did you miss numbers are down across the board part or just too busy frothing at the mouth because last nights example was your club?
The drug cheats? Haha wouldn’t have thought so
See the standards of your contributions haven’t lifted. Still a bay level nuffie.
and you’re a bit thick to boot.
You miss the patch of dirt at one end of our home ground?

All this shitposting because you’ve foamed at the mouth that because I put up a tweet from the MCG’s account to make a point about crowds this season.

You are so damn precious.

I guess there Is a few variables that may effect those numbers. Like for us we've had two games in Ballarat. Plus drawing interstate teams instead of Vic ones would drop numbers down a fair bit too.

The big 4 get kissed on the dick so much by the AFL. I guess they have to look after their cash cows.

Wow haha settle down bro. Was just a bit of banter!

So if all things were equal, would the big 4 still not draw the largest crowds?

Dude I went out of the way to avoid this being banter. To avoid this being another Richmond v Geelong tit-for-tat. Could have easily shown Dimma’s comments from last year and then laughed but didn’t. Could have easily made follow up remarks about the aesthetics people raised above and made it about Richmond but didn’t.

Sorry but 22k at the G is pathetic. As is the premiers not getting 30k on a Saturday in a top of the table clash with Freo. 43k to Hawthorn v Collingwood is a poor turnout from two big clubs. And there’d be more examples.

The AFL have finally reached critical mass, where they’ve bastardised the game to the point it is unrecognisable to the average fan to the sport we grew up on and fell in love with.

I Struggle to sit through more than a half of any game not featuring my club. A lot of unwatchable crap, and the list of clubs that genuinely play aesthetically pleasing football is very small. Melbourne are premiers and their brand is dull and boring to watch.

Think there’s been quite a few good games this season so don’t think it’s the standard.

Covid/flu is definitely having a big impact. Rising inflation/costs etc definitely impacting peoples spending. The hassle and cost of upgrading your ticket from general admission.

For me personally I prefer to go to day games, no interest in night games. Also the ease of watching on TV

No doubt COVID & the Flu is playing a big factor as well, it’s that time of year where it’s spreading and hitting everyone. And you make a good point about the costs, not just at the footy but everything in general has gone up, and I have no doubt families are saving money deciding not to go to the footy, so they can pay bills, put food on the table etc etc.

You add that on top of the umpiring, the constant rule changes and the standard of footy at the moment and there’s no wonder crowd numbers are low.

Can’t agree with you on rule changes. 6-6-6 and especially standing on your mark has had a massive impact. Standing on mark has led to increase in scoring where now you see quite a few games where they score 100 points each. The umpire dissent was yes a farce.

I'll always watch Carlton (and will likely fly to Melbourne for a game at some point this season as well) but I think the interest in neutral games just isn't what it once was.
I certainly recognise less players in the comp now. Used to religiously watch Fri/Sat might footy at the bare minimum. Now struggle to watch a half uninterrupted of a neutral game.

I'm the same but I just put it down to getting older and having other interests and more of a life at 30 than I did at 15.
Having just turned 30 and having been recently married, I must admit, I have wondered the same.
