Senior coach who works probably 60-70 hours a week taking on a senior leadership role at a club sponsor, might not actually be for real work. Well, I never!
Rocks into Morris, gives a team talk, walks out. Sounds valid.

This is a bad look for the AFL moreso than Geelong.

To backtrack and feign ignorance that they were blindsided is purely down to the clubland pushback.

So they'll pretend to ask for more info before likely ticking it off again.

They could have just grown a pair and told all and sundry we knew and we had no objections.

Yeah I dunno, I think it makes Geelong look pretty shady and the AFL probably didn't want to touch this but they have no choice.

What's the point of a soft cap if teams are going to blatantly cheat.

I think there's two things here.

1. You're operating under the assumption, without proof, that it is dodgy behaviour. Or that the AFL's rules prevent these things. If so why last week was this 'ticked off'??

2. The precedent has already been set.

Adam Simpson took ownership of two Perth based HJ franchises. A West Coast Sponsor.

Luke Beveridge after winning 2016 flag. Also a sponsor.
Victoria University has today announced the appointment of Western Bulldogs coach Luke Beveridge as an adjunct professor.

Beveridge will work on a number of activities related to the University’s various sport science, coach, and management courses and activities.

The third year coach said he was excited to contribute to the strengthening of ties between the Club and it’s long-time partner.

“The Club and Victoria University have a strong and healthy partnership and I’m honoured to be able to continue to develop that with this appointment, Beveridge told westernbulldogs.com.au following his appointment.

“I look forward to working alongside VU staff and students in the coming months and strengthening the Club’s relationship with Victoria University.”

On a more broad discussion you'd have to say the soft cap has been a failure. Brought in because big clubs spent money on their football programs with frivolous attention to how much was being spent. And the argument was that smaller clubs couldn't compete.

The soft cap is here, including a luxury tax, and the powerful clubs are still winning premierships and competing deep in finals while your St.k, NM, GCS types aren't getting close.

Still waiting on being an on-field power. 😂

but it doesnt really matter though really. you can have 10 mil in debt and receive plenty of afl money and be premier. while it's nice for a club from their standpoint, it doesnt really seem to matter much in the grand scheme of things

They aren't winning in the next couple of years so they might as well sacrifice a couple of games to get some extra cash in the bank.
Still a completely desperate move bordering on throwing games for $.

Sends a poor message to the playing group and anyone ever potentially considering joining it.

A lot cheaper for North fans to fly to Tassie games than WA. They said they will earn a total of $500k to $1m but wouldn’t they just get that eventually from AFL funding if they didn’t earn it for these two games? Freo getting an extra home game could impact finals
