Hello bae. I hope you’re enjoying this offseason as much as I am!

What’s your favourite book? What book are you currently reading? What’s a popular book you hate? Tell me!

My favourite book of all time has to be Dracula. Not to be cliche but I think it set lofty heights for what gothic horror could be. It presents a unique style of writing and method of story delivery. The original was written and told its story through notes, journal entries, newspaper articles and the like. It really spurred my love of horror when i first read it.

Since christmas, I’ve read a few books, Slaughterhouse 5, The King in Yellow & Ice Station, all of which I’d recommend, but I’m presently reading “The Italian” (just started this morning) which has so far been terrific, even if I’m only 20~ pages in.

Lastly, I ****ing hate the Da Vinci code. Poorly written and one of the least interesting thriller/crime novels I’ve ever read (and the movie is worse) I also hated Bridge to Terabithia as a kid, shit story.

which version? are you more of an old testament or new testament person?
Probably equal. I think it's just an incredible... the whole bible is an incredible! I joke very much so! They always hold up The Art of the Deal I say 'it's my second favourite book of all time'. But I just think the bible is something very special.

Just finished A Tale of Two Cities - I delayed reading it for years, not sure why. It's incredible.
Just before that was a biography of Martin Luther.
Now started a History of Seances book I received for Christmas.

As a serious answer, my favourite book since childhood has been Treasure Island, but due to being an elitist, pretentious snob, my literary movement as a whole is the 19th Century Russian Golden Age; the depth and insight of Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky is incredible. And there's still a lot I haven't read (Fathers and Sons is supposed to be Turgenev's masterpiece, yet I've only read First Love and On The Eve by him, which while not being as deep as others in the genre have an absolutely fluid style that is amazing).

A history book about the soviet empire, a real eye opener. Read it a long time ago but forget the name of the book. :$
Chilling stuff.
Yet awful little tankies apologise for the horrors of the soviets still to this day!

Another great book that I read was Pedagogy of the Oppressed. Very interesting and insightful read into both how important education is as a form of freedom, but also the roles that educators play in the lives of the disadvantaged. Very lefty in nature but an extremely interesting text.

The last book I read was probably the second-last Harry Potter book. Read all of them except the last one, so I still don’t know how it ends.

This was before Rowling turned out to be a transphobic piece of sh*t, though.

Check out Orlando Figes, he's done a lot of work on Russian history (popularly accessible yet still quite weighty).
