The AFL since the end of 2021 began to count complimentary memberships as legitimate, unlike when Richmond became the first AFL club to crack 100k members where a minimum of $50 was required to be paid for the membership to be counted as official.
Apparently there is still a requirement for the ticket to be held by a human, so pet memberships still cant be counted in clubs membership numbers.

The sneaky cheating Hawks, their family membership includes 2 adults and 4 kids (Not the standard 2 that every one else includes).
So their numbers get bumped by the cheeky members who invent to extra kids and add them to the membership.

They count the same for every club
Um we can host them. Mcg contracts and cheating afl who want more supporters at finals stop us. We are so big we even fill grounds outside our home city.
There is no big 4. Just a big three.
