Wow. 5-0 and Gerrard and Torres were well, well below par.

A welcome return to form for Riera. And Dagger's back! :D

Not a bad day for Stevie, plays below par and still bags a hat trick :D

What a great performance. Tossed up just taping it, but luckily got up and watched an annihilation

Good team performance, everyone put in. Didnt have to rely on Stevie G and Torres for the spark.

Emphatic finish by Kuyt for the first, and great volley from Riera.

Looked pretty solid at the back as well for most of the game, Reina was particulary good at the start. Skrtel came back nicely as well, as Carew looked dangerous at the start.

All in all, was a good game, hopefully no injuries in the break and we come back in a fortnight to the same goalscoring form.

Got into work about 1hr ago. Slept 2 hours and watched a great display of football by the reds.

I loved how Dirk and Riera played the wings. It was the best game I have seen Riera play. After that game i hope we dont go near Barry. Xabi played great. I dont know where Barry would fit in our side. I hope we dont chase him .

I liked our line up last night. Gerrard moved forward and Xabi was playing the ball into him just unfortunate Torres couldnt get on the end of some passes.

Awesome way to start the working week - suffering from the lack of sleep though. Cheers to all who suggested streams for me. Internet was playing up so didn't actually see much of it, but made do with Guardian's MBM coverage. Thankfully have Fox at work so will be watching it this arvo - 4:30 for those who haven't seen it/want to again!

That sounds like the same footage foxtel had - and the commentators mentioned that Ferguson had taken a swipe at Rafa by saying that 'true football fans' got excited when their team scored.

But I guess when you've got enough whiskey in you you'd get excited about anything.

Ferg is a twat. His limp arm pumping celebrations when United score as so feeble you think he is going to kark it at any minute.

Great result. Pressure right on United now.

Anyone have an idea on who we will target over the transfer window?

I pray its not Barry. I hope we offload Lucas and retain Alonso.

A great result - just a pity the International break is back. Lets hope that does not stop our momentum.

Still plenty of work to be done but at least there is genuine belief amongst the fans and players and there must be some doubt in those of United?

I believe Glen Johnson is a target as we need another RB + boosting our English quota. We do not need Barry but more so a RW and back up striker. Hopefully Agger stays also.

Seeing Agger back was the lasting memory of last night.

That and me falling asleep on my desk at the present time.

Hope we don't sell Riera, he was fantastic this morning.

Liverpool To Back Rafael Benitez With £30-£40m For Summer Spree - Reports
The Spaniard has been promised funds for new acquisitions after signing a new five-year contract with the club...

According to reports in the British press, Liverpool's owners have told manager Rafael Benitez that he will receive significant transfer funds to strengthen his squad at the end of the season.

It is claimed by The Sun that Tom Hicks and George Gillett, the Reds' American owners, are willing to hand the Spaniard £20 million for new purchases, as well as any cash he raises from players sales, including the £12m from Robbie Keane's return to Tottenham Hotspur in January.

The Daily Mail writes that the 48-year-old will be handed as much as £30 million to help land his identified transfer targets this summer.

30-40 million, eh?

12-16 million for Barry?

10-15 million for Downing?

... all 40 for VILLA?!

Add in the likely sales for Voronin, Pennant, Lucas and Dossena could net us around another 10 mill total

Pretty sure that Pennant is out of contract & will leave for free but not 100%. Hopefully we didn't agree a fee for purchase with Voronins' German loan club because he has been in outstanding form lately & we could demand more now. Should probably bite their hand off if they offer us anything at all though ;)

Do you think that Lucas & Dossena will be allowed to leave as they seem to be showing improvement?

Their improvement has lacked compared to the others who have started.

I beleive we will target Barry,Agger and Xabi will stay. Lucas and Dossena arent really standing up for us if we get an injury through the midfield Lucas especially.

If we can get a couple of quality wingers it would really do our formation a hell of a lot of good.

I think Villa has his eyes set on Real or Barca which is a shame because I would love to see him and Torres upfront. It would be a spanish affair. Im not sure what Rafa is after he isnt giving away much at the moment I love his attitude though. If only we beat middlesborough and didnt have those draws at home, the title would be in the bag.

Barry would be OK provided it isn't the ridiculous price tag he had over him last summer. I still feel it is not an area of great concern. I disagree in terms of Lucas because he held his own against Manchester United. He is good enough for a 4th choice CM. Dossena may be given time to adapt still (he is an Italian international after all). Patrice Evra was terrible in his 1st year here but is now the leagues best LB despite recent performances. I wouldn't be too fussed if Dossena did leave though because Aurelio is in good form & Insua is a talent.

I am 100% with you in targeting wingers. It is not good enough to try & turn strikers into wingers (Babel is a striker). Chelsea also need wingers so we could be priced out of the better options. What is your opinion of Lennon, he has been rumoured despite signing a new deal? Luis Valencia would be good IMO....

Villa would blow our whole budget out of the water. It won't happen unfortunately. Our best bet could be to try & sign a quality young striker from a lesser league. But who?

If only indeed

His 21 goals in all competitions actually make him equal top in England with Anelka.

It's still a point with an extra game played. I'm not getting my hopes up. A very tricky trip to the Cottage in a fortnight, which precedes the first leg against Chelsea. Let's hope 1) our players get through the international break unscathed, and 2} Rafa doesn't play any silly buggers with the team at Fulham. Has to be first choice.

It will be interesting to see what Rafa does now that he has more control.

Sending Voronin on loan might turn out to be a master stroke as he might actually have some value now.

Lucas i think will stay as he adds to our midfield mix and shows glimpses of form at time. Still young. But depends on what a club is willing to pay.

Dossena - Won't turn out to be a left back as Aurelio and Insua have that to themselves. However i wonder if he will turn out to be like Kuyt? Played out of position can fulfill a role for the team?

Agger - Would be sad to see him leave.

I assume Alonso will be safe as raising funds won't be such a big deal now.

In terms of who we might buy - Given that its Rafa

In terms of strikers

Roque Santa Cruz or Villa

I think we're about a 20% chance.

Even if we're perfect for the rest of the season (possible but unlikely) it still requires Man U to drop points twice in their last 9 games.

On the international break I'm hopeful that while it may offer Man U a chance to compose themselves, it may also do the same for their next opponents, who happen to be Aston Villa. Last night we got a glimpse of their quality in the first half, hopefully they can sustain that a bit longer.

For us, Fulham first up at the Cottage is definitely a toughie (they've now beaten Arsenal and the Mancs) but provided we display our current form I don't think anyone can stop us.

sell dossena, voronin and el zhar.
let babel be our second striker.
so the 40 mill rafa will have plus about 8 or so from the sale of those three.

spend 15-20 mill each on a left and right winger so we can get some quality, and then bring in glen johnson and ill be pretty happy.
