Thiago comes in as a nominal starter, he doesn't come in after starting for Bayern in the CL final just to sit on our bench - which is why I think a starter has to make room.

Thiago isn't coming if we don't get rid of a starter. Wijnaldum probably. It's logic really. Milner. Henderson. Fabinho. Ox. Keita. Wijnaldum. We not gonna add him with six midfielders who would start most weeks. Can't afford it either we are broke.

If we have to sell Wijnaldum to get Thiago id do that. I think Thiago is a more gifted ticker type playmaker and would make our midfield more threatening. Our threats are obviously through the fullbacks, I think Thiago adds another dimension.

This is removed from sentimentality of course, Wijnaldum leaving would be a huge blow. I have a great affection for him. But as far as midfield options go Thiago controls the play better than any of our other midfielders and in terms of Wijno's versatility as a forward/mid we already have that covered by Ox/Keita/Jones.

As far as the contract situation of both players and where their heads are at it makes sense.

Yeah I like wijnaldum and in an ideal world we'd just add Thiago to the team without anyone going. I can see Thiago only coming in if someone leaves. He should dominate here if he joins.

Genuinely not concerned about Chelsea. Gonna take some time to get all those signings going together especially with the quick turnaround between seasons and Lampard is still a bit of an unknown. City getting their mojo back concerns me more, and the potential burnout of our guys concerns me most.

Meh it's a ride. We're not gonna last forever and we should see some signings next year hopefully. Still think we got one more great year in us.

I reckon we're in it for the long haul. Training facilities, Anfield expansion, winning mentality top down. The sheer competence at all levels. Not stressed about the long term, I feel like we're out of the wilderness. I was just talking next season.

Thiago plays the 6 role, that’s Fabinho’s position. Whilst he’d be a great addition to the squad what we really need is that dynamic midfielder with excellent dribbling skills that can open up the play. Keita was bought to play that role and has only shown glimpses of it. What we don’t have is a Kevin De Bruyne type.

Seems about right.

I guess depends if we get Messi inbetween now and kick off.

Yep. Things wont normalise until 2021. Not a good look to be spending big in this market.

Unless you are bottomless money pit like a Chelsea or City

€53.00m Werner
€50.20m Chilwell
€40.00m Ziyech

Havertz still to come also, Chelsea are spending some crazy cash at a time when clubs are losing money hand over fist

If we can't come up with the $ to sign Thiago, we need to re-sign Gini and avoid another Can situation. Really Thiago isn't that expensive, COVID has hit every club hard but to not be able to come up with 25-30 to sign a world class player is a little ridiculous, we are speaking about Liverpool after all. If you're not willing to spend the money on the transfer then at least satisfy Gini's wage demands and tie him down.

Even if we raise funds selling players like grujic/Wilson, unless we get rid of an actual first teamer midfielder we ain't signing Thiago. We're not going to go into a season with 8 midfielders. It's wijnaldum for Thiago and that's all.
