Thought we laboured a bit. First half we couldnt create much and Arsenal defended like the mid table team they are with everyone behind the ball and five at the back.

Then they scored an excellent goal. We stuck with it though and I was happy for Taki to score his first goal for the club.

What I did like is that all our players looked pretty pissed off that they didnt win. Hopefully the hunger is still there.

Steven, I don't think anything you have said is necessarily incorrect, but unless you get oil money buying the club, or you are Manchester United, then there is no way to acquire that sort of mindset. Man U, Real and Barca do it because the clubs are literally licenses to print money. Liverpool is not.

So no, I don't think this era of success will go on for ever, because we simply cannot afford it unless the Russians or the Saudis buy us. Which raises other issues about being the sort of club one wants to barrack for.

And guys like Elliott, Williams and Jones are pretty good future proofing.

Who the **** is Manchester United? And why do we constantly put them on a pedestal? We have a global fan base of 771 million fans FFS…this was estimated TWO YEARS AGO, before we won in Madrid. That number would be higher now. Nike doesn’t go handing out English record kit deals to clubs that don’t have a global fan base. Pretty sure I didn’t see any empty seats when Liverpool played Melbourne Victory in a stadium that holds circa 96,000 people, unlike Manchester United who had about 8,000 empty seats in a stadium holding 60,000 when it played Perth last year in a city with a significant English migration base. Gary Neville, Mr anti-Liverpool himself, admitted on Sky that Liverpool is the one club that can overtake United’s financial might and that concerns him. Again, who the **** is Manchester United? And why doesn’t Liverpool think bigger than them? We should be. 771 million plus fans. Tap into that fan base and the potential for more fans. It’s a virtuous cycle, as Peter Moore calls it. Dominate on the pitch, get more sponsors and more fans, and thus more money, buy better players with that money to win more trophies, get more fans and more sponsors, more money, then repeat. It’s a virtuous cycle. We are not doing this. We are getting success NOW but we are not improving the team. This success won’t last forever. We should be thinking “right, we know times are tough but we’ve won 2 major trophies in the past 2 years, the world and sponsors love us at the moment, we’re the most watched and most watchable team in the world, let’s capitalise on this success and buy Werner and Thiago by having our owner tip in some funds and then we can go in for the kill”. But no, the tight ass culture set by FSG has stunted this and is stunting our growth. Rather than make us a club which improves from a position of strength just like United did under Fergie for 2 decades, we are now second favourites with the bookies to win the upcoming league and we just lost the Shield to Arsenal. Not asking for a Sheikh to own us. All I want is for FSG to either secure these Werner-type players when they come knocking or when the need arises or to sell the football club to a deeper pocket who will secure these players. About 5 years ago I read that some super Chinese conglomerate was interested in buying Liverpool which would have made Liverpool one of the richest, if not the richest, club in the world. I also read that the mob who were/are interested in buying Newcastle were originally interested in buying Liverpool. Both times FSG knocked it back. FFS if you are not prepared to sell to a deeper pocket, then at least buy quality players when the time arises. It’s not like we would breach FFP because we are in the top 2 money earners and profit makers in England. Not too fussed about perception of a rich owner either. No one would have branded Newcastle fans plastic because they already had a fan base, unlike Chelsea and City. Liverpool has an existing fan base too…all 771 million (plus) of us.

Just for the record, I’m not trolling or stirring the pot. Believe me, I would be ecstatic if in 3 years time you said to me “I told you so”, rather than me telling that to you.

TOP STORY: Mane stalls on new deal in hopes of Barca move
A shock report in Mundo Deportivo states that Liverpool's Sadio Mane has been offered to Barcelona as a replacement for Lionel Messi.

The Argentine made himself the biggest topic in world football after declaring that he wished to leave Barcelona following the club's second place finish in La Liga and yet another humiliating Champions League exit this season.

Though Manchester City have been installed as early favourites to prize Messi away from Barca, Mundo claims that Mane could make the switch to Camp Nou that would see him link up with new Blaugrana boss Ronald Koeman -- whom he spent two years working under at Southampton.

The claim comes after Mane stalled on signing a new contract with Liverpool, his deal is set to expire at the end of the 2022-23 season. Now, Reds officials expected to demand £108 million should they part with the Senegalese star.

******* lol. Apparently we are offering him out hahahahahhahah

LOL. It's manes reps who are talking to Barca.

i think Liverpool think far bigger than them and this way of thinking. the part in bold seems to be some kind of utopia to you but that sounds pretty hollow to me sounds like what a Real Madrid or Man Utd fan would have as a blueprint for their success. i prefer Klopp's way of actually training athletes to be better (remember that?) and his long term vision of "a team full of scousers", the idea we can have a team of multiple Scouse and English talents we've built up that are complimented by internationals, not the other way around. it's sad to me people would scoff at that and prefer 100 mil signings like Pogba Dabbing on Instagram for the world to see so our commercial value goes up so we can buy more Pogba's. just doesn't seem like the Liverpool style one bit.

the window doesn't even end until early October, we have some fairly substantial internationals to move on like Origi and Shaqiri before we do anything so there's still a lot to play out. in 4 weeks we'd have probably moved those 2 and Grujic on and might have Thiago and another player, who knows

I would just point out that as far as "being as big as Manchester United" is concerned, it is 1993 for us. Man U transferred that support into that position of financial strength by winning 12 titles in 20 years. We've won one. And if there had been a world altering event that collapsed the world economy in 1993, that would have made the comparison even more appropriate.

They haven't tapped into that fan base fully yet, and it can't be done overnight after one league title.

We've won one title and one champions league and some fans think that just means we're billionaires now. In the middle of a pandemic too after 30 years of shitness and approaching 10 year anniversary of almost going under adminstration.

Once we win 10+ titles we can be like United. Spend like United. Etc. Until then we ain't.

BTW, I think we should spend, just not crazy money. Sarr would have been nice, with Shaqiri going the other way. Thiago would be nice, although it appears to be at Gini's expense. Another CB is needed IMO but I don't think that is going to happen.

We're also not at the stage where we can spend 50m on squad players like City did with Mahrez. He's never been a lock best XI player for them. We can only spend money on guys who play or are young enough to wait.
