One thing we're much better at this season is game management, we protect leads better. It does result in games being much more cagey and scrappy looking but it's getting the job done
Agree with protecting leads but what we're doing far more is actually getting the first goal and leading games. Last season we would concede the first goal almost all the time and we were always playing catch up.

Having said that I still dont think we're playing very well but we are grinding out results which is pleasing.

That's the first game of this incredibly tough stretch done and dusted and three points.

Also .. get ****ed Chelsea you campaigners.

Good to get the win but the performances are still not good. Something just seems off and I can't put my finger on exactly what it is.

That ref was an absolute bellend in the 2nd half.
Liverpool are not letting 2 goals a game in is what is off.

Liverpool have so much more control now. That has to mean less output offensively. Last night they clearly played with a lower press to ensure Palmer had no space to play in and it worked.

It might not be as pretty but Liverpool have let in three goals in 8 games - last year it was 10.

We're all still used to the heavy metal football under Jurgen. Arne's team plays more measured. As QuietB said we are not conceding so easily resulting in chasing games. Curtis Jones is better than just a depth player so have no issue with him starting games. We still need a specialist number 9.

Yeah, I've had enough of posts where we list our midfielders and it's like "Endo, Jones and Morton as depth..." When Jones is at his best, press-proof, retaining possession and making forward runs, he's as good as anyone we have. He's not depth: he's one of our four mids I'm happy to see start any time.

There were a few parts in the game when I was just yelling at the screen for the lads to hold onto the ball for a bit and not chuck it away cheaply.

As for a striker, if you are worried about Jota's injury record, or Nunez's consistency. I reckon Openda is a good option.

Szo would want to keep an eye on Jones given Slot wants more goals from that position and Jones looked a lot more dangerous than Szo last night.

I thought Nunez was really good last night - didn't get any clear cut chances but he was a menace defensively.

We played poorly overall and won against a good side with threat. Plenty to like.
100%

Winning without hitting our straps yet is absolute gold

Need to win ugly at times and just churn out the result.

So much this. I'd bite your hand off for a scrappy 0-1 win away to Arsenal. We're not pouring forward in waves like we used to but we're also much more stable.

Also I believe Slot wants to sign a few of his own players to really impose his philosophy.

Someone like Zuba or equivalent at #6 is a must as it seems Morton isn't in Slot's plans and Endo only every was a short term solution in the position. I would love to have Grav/Macca/Szo/Curtis competing for the 2 advanced mid positions. Competition is a good thing and each player offers something different.
