I doubt it is cash unless Real are offering Trent 450k a week which we rightly won't go anywhere near. In Mo and Virgil's case at their age it could well do with the length of the contract wanting more than we want to give them.

Trent deserves a 5 year extension. Total salary package of 300k / week ( base pay of 200k) which would make him the highest paid defender in the PL. Pretty much doubling his wages for the next 5 years. Vice Captain & gets captaincy when VVD leaves.

VVD & Mo - 2 more seasons on the same terms they are on now.

Negotiations done & dusted!

Diaz cameo on Mo’s wing on Saturday was interesting - didn’t really do much there

To be fair to him we didn't get a lot of attacking opportunities at that point and the ones we did tended to go through Gakpo.

Van Dijk, Gakpo and Gravenberch called up for the Netherlands.
Tsimikas called up for Greece.
Szoboszlai called up for Hungary.
Salah called up for Egypt.
Alisson called up for Brazil.
Mac Allister called up for Argentina.
Koumas and Beck called up for Wales.
Endo called up for Japan.
Bradley called up for Northern Ireland.
Konate called up for France.
Diaz called up for Colombia.
Mamardashvili called up for Georgia.
Jota called up for Portugal.
Alexander-Arnold called up for England.
Quansah and Morton called up for England U21s.
Gordon and Chambers called up for England U20s.
Nallo called up for England U19s.
Nyoni and Pinnington called up for England U18s.
Robertson and Doak called up Scotland.
Calvin Ramsay called up for Scotland U21s.
Kelleher called up for Ireland.
Kone-Doherty called up for Ireland U19s.
Keyrol Figueroa called up for USA U19s.
Nunez called up for Uruguay, with his ban getting reversed.

They will reach deals soon, but I wouldn't be signing either Virg or Salah to anything long term. Salah is out of form at the moment, and there is a chance we have seen the best of him. Definitely need to tie Trent down long term. Still a bit of time to go, they will reach a deal of some sorts in time.

Salah has 6 goals and 5 assists after 10 games, the guy is getting held to a ridiculous standard if that’s considered out of form.

Class is permanent with Salah, even when he's struggling with his dribbling or passing, he still finds a way to get goal involvements. I'd sign him up for 2 years, even if he falls off a cliff, Saudi's will pay top dollar on name value alone.

Thats what I mean. Two years is perfect. Saves the yearly contractual discussions, protects us from the "drop off" when it comes, and leaves some value on the market, given how tight assed we are with spending. Just meant I hope they are not expecting 4-5 year contracts in their 30s. Be interesting to know what the hold off is, and from which party.

Another 2 seasons out of Mo would be prudent. I've heard suggestions that he wants 3, possibly 4 seasons but that is surely a step too far for an ageing attacker in the PL. As for wages I would hope FSG simply offer the same terms. Mo can't expect a pay rise, his best years are behind him and if that's what he wants than it is best to part ways.

I don't see it as much risk to the club. If he dropped off significantly next season the club would have little trouble selling him in the summer 2026, possibly even after Egypt plays at the WC.

I was asking this question about Alisson last year, and now we probably won't keep Kelleher past this year. He's been fantastic but he. just. gets. injured. too. often.

My money is the Georgian bloke starts next year for Liverpool.
I mean Marmardashvili starts if Alisson is injured. But if both are fit you want to sit the best GK in the world on the bench?

Or in your scenario are we selling Ali which would be just so epically dumb.

I swear people on here seem to either forget or ignore how good Ali is and how he was and is a MAJOR reason for our success over the past decade.

People in such a rush to sell him because of a few injuries. Yeah I agree he does miss quite a few games for a GK for sure but if we have Kelleher who is excellent backup and then we signed Marmadashvili as another excellent backup for when Kelleher leaves.

What's the problem?

I'm not freaking out about Ali's injury cos I know we have Kelleher who will step in and I trust him.

Why is everyone so desperate to sell the best GK in the world? It's also not like he's missing whole seasons or whatever. Or only plays 10 times a season.

51, 37, 42, 54, 47, 32 appearances in each season since he joined. Stop trying to sell him 🤣

Baffling.

He's the best keeper in the world but his body might be stuffed. I thought he'd last til he's 38 but he's missed 40+ games in the last 4 years.

I would not be surprised if we make a ruthless call to go with Mamardashvili and Jaros as our keepers next season.
