Age is just a number. If they are still playing at a high level then why wouldnt we rely on them. Obviously when they get to that age we should go down the Milner route and offer one year deals year on year.

Age isn't just a number. Nobody beats age in the world of Premier League football. It would be a mistake to rely on any players at 35/36 +.

Milner is not a like for like comparison. He was happy to be a fill in utility squad player helping the squad out with his experience.

I don't see Virg or Mo ever accepting that sort of role at Liverpool. More to the point I wouldn't ever want to see Mo or Virg end their careers at Liverpool in such a manner. When they finish up it should be winning trophies as key players.

Virg himself has come and said he thinks he still has 4 years of top football in him and Mo is playing even better so who's to say he doesnt have 4 years left at the top too.

Think it's harder for attackers to stay at the top as they get older. Ronaldo had to leave to shittier leagues to still get that output he wanted for goals but Ronnie isnt a different player to Mo, can see Mo regressing goals wise but assists could go through the roof as he's becoming more and more of a playmaker.

But yeah I'd love a two year contract then see where both are at.

In two years time if Mo still has a 25 and 15 type season. I mean why wouldnt you sign him on again.

Plenty of water under the bridge though. We just need to at least get them tied down for two more years.

Pretty resigned to the fact TAA is off.

You're dreaming if you believe either player is going to be around for 4 seasons. Simply not reality,

More to the point in 2-3 years time we need our new Mo Salah & Van Dijk - not be hanging on to the old ones for ever.

Depends how they want to finish up. They can fade to squad players and still contribute or retire in a couple of years still in their peak. I highly doubt Mo and Virg retire in two years though.

Im just saying what Virg said, he thinks he still has 4 years of top level football in him.

I have never understood the fascination with Real Madrid and the way everybody puts them up on a pedestal.

What is so great about them?

The all white? Big deal. So is Leeds, so is the NZ mens football team.

14 Champions League titles? The first 5 were invitational tournaments so make it 9. Had we won those two finals against them it would effectively be 8-7 in Liverpool's favour.

La Liga? It is an inferior league to the Premier League. Real Madrid play in a pub league, Liverpool plays in the big league. If Bellingham wants to hide in that pub league, that's his decision but Trent is better than that. He would be going backwards if went to Real IMO.

Ancelloti? Everton. Enough said on that. And have you seen their President? He looks 90.

Stadium. Credit where credit is due. They have an impressive stadium but Liverpool could sell that out no problems.

Global fanbase? I'm sure you have all seen the footage of the Liverpool fanzone concert before the 2022 Champions League final in Paris. Estimated reports suggest 50,000 to 60,000 Liverpool fans made the trek to Paris. But I haven't seen anything similar for the Real fans. Yes their allocation of tickets were filled but I googled and saw one image of about 15 Real fans drinking outside a pub. Where were their fans? We ****en dwarf these campaigners. The distance and cost of travel to Paris from Liverpool and Madrid are similar. Also, I have met and spoken to many Liverpool, United, Arsenal and Chelsea fans in my time but literally have only met one Real fan. Other than in Spain, where the **** are they?

Galacticos? What Real used to do is spend overs for a player but eventually they had to be bailed out by the Spanish Government because of their crippling debt. They should have gone bust. Their finances are now seemingly so tight they are still pushing for a European Super League and now they rely on the Bosman rule to go after the player they want. They did that with Mbappe, they will try to do that with Trent. Forget their 20m offer, they knew it would be rejected. Bosman FC.

And then there's all the other shit. The way they sooked and shat the bed re the Balon D'Or, the blatant incorrect decision in last season's semi final against Bayern and I could go on.

Just for once, just one time, I would love to see another club stick it to these pub league grubs and I would love it to be Liverpool. It might even act as a precedent in the future where it becomes ok for a player to say no to those grubs. We can't be a sitting duck every time Real (and Barca) decide they want one of our players.

**** them.

Slot says Konate and Bradley to train today. Expects everyone apart from Gomez (who will miss a few weeks with hammy) to be available vs United.

Perfect timing for Konate to get healthy.

Don't like having a League Cup and FA Cup within 40 hours of each other. I assume the FA Cup game against Accrington Stanley will have heavy rotation at least. Speaking of CB's perhaps Endo has to play a role there that game.

Wonder which version of Basketcase United we'll see tomorrow.

The ones that despite their terrible form, find a way to frustrate us and keep it scrappy? Or the ones that stay true to form and let us cut through them like a hot knife through butter?

I'm more in the mood for the latter scenario.
