FTA-TV The BigFooty Top 100 TV Shows Countdown (Top 10 Counting Down)

Remove this Banner Ad

As with the movie countdown, I've collected lists of BigFooty poster's favourite TV shows. The purpose, again, is to promote discussion and get an indication of BigFooty's TV preferences. The reaction to this countdown was even stronger than that of the Film countdown and a big thanks goes out to all those who participated in the collection of votes.

Before we begin, I should make it clear how the order was reached. Firstly, people were asked to submit a list of 10 to 20 TV shows which they considered to be their favourites. It was important that these were ranked from 1 to 20, as the films ranking within a person's list determined how many points were awarded. For example, a film ranked 1 on a posters list would receive 20 points, whilst a film ranked 15 would receive 6 points.

Once all the votes were tallied, the list was created. Because of the increase to a possible 20 shows on a list, there were less ties than in the film countdown. However, there still were these situations and tiebreakers were required to determine the position of shows on the list. Tied shows were ranked first on how many lists they appeared on, then their position on those lists.

For example

Show A is ranked 8 on Poster 1's list and 4 on poster 2's list
Show B is ranked 7 on Poster 3's list and 5 on poster 4's list

Both these shows will receive 30 points (Film A 13&17, Film B 14&16). Both shows appeared on 2 lists.
Show A would be ranked higher because it was ranked 4 on Poster 2's list, compared to 5 on Poster 4's list.

One of the other concerns I had about this countdown was that there would be a low amount of participation and the list would be dominated by films that appeared high on one person's list and nowhere else. Thanks to the high amount of participation, this was avoided - every film on this list appeared on at least two poster's list.

Overall, 98 posters took part in the countdown, whilst 426 shows received votes.

Without further ado, let the countdown begin!

On average, men and women think about sex every six seconds. Shorten that to every second, and you've got Coupling. It's more than just a one night stand!

Looking forward to this, I rate a lot of the opinions in this forum and this list will be a great guide for shows I've missed. :thumbsu:

I've watched all of Californication and True Blood until their current series. Californication I might pick up again but just seemed to be getting tired. True Blood, I dunno, doesn't seem to be going anywhere interesting now so I got bored this season, don't think ill return.

Both have had some cracking moments - especially Californication.

Games and SHHigh were pissers, good calls.

I'm way more excited for this countdown compared to the movie one considering how much more time I spend watching TV.

Almost impossible to predict number 1, I'll go with The Simpsons as I saw it on heaps of lists but could easily be Seinfeld or something else I've forgotten

Good to see Coupling get in, was wondering if people have forgotten it already, and the Games was just outside my 20. Looking forward to the rest of the countdown.

Breaking Bad for mine. The Wire and Mad Men will be up there as well.

I voted for Treme & Life on Mars (UK), so happy to see them make it. Part of me thought Life on Mars would be higher, but its on the list, so whatevs. I think my #1 will be in the next 10.

My #1 was Fawlty Towers, saw that as number 1 on a couple of lists but not on a huge quantity of people's top 20. Should be between 10-20 I think.
