Not just accountants... Accountants who flip houses...For accountants, the girls from H1 sure did have a blank look on their faces, when Scotty asked them if they knew what a depreciation schedule was.
I don't think anyone is doubting how complex the actual process is to calculate the value (as highlighted by the fact that the team that put the least amount of science into their estimate won the challenge).Calculating a depreciation schedule on a huge asset like that is pretty complicated. Besides, the girls said they work in finance, which means they probably have little experience in asset depreciation. Flipping houses doesn't mean they'd know either, as not ALL houses sold are eligible to claim depreciation; it only applies to homes bought to rent (like The Block houses will be sold to rent as holiday homes). So, if the girls had sold their flipped homes to owner/occupiers, then it would never have even come up because that kind of buyer can't claim depreciation on their tax for that.
The Block may be set to make a huge change to the show in the coming years. While Daylesford has been locked and loaded as the location of the 2025 season, there seem to be a few key signs that The Block might be leaving Melbourne in the year following.
Some weeks they seem ok, others you wonder if they did a line of coke before the show.Gee, some of those judges drink their own bathwater. #theblock
I think the judges got it right tonight. H2 had the best backyard. H1 did a great job, too, and the solution they came up with to replace the stone looked great.
H5: Fancy winning a $30G BBQ and not putting it in your backyard? What's the point of having it on your balcony, which comes off a kitchen?
That's only because K&M has completely stuffed up the design of that house. That room they turned into a sitting room to be like a Cabana for the pool area was done completely wrong. They should have had a kitchenette with a fridge and sink in there, and then that outdoor eating area in the backyard would make so much more sense. Then, they could have put their BBQ down there and had a complete outdoor eating area near the pool, with the bonus of having the ensuite there to act as a toilet/shower.The user of H5 will categorically use the balcony for meals more than where that table is in the backyard.
I thought H2's was just slightly better than H1's. Grant is a landscape designer, so their outdoor areas should be good. They showed that make-do solution for H1's BBQ bench on Dan V Dani a bit closer, and it looked shocking. I think the camera angles used were flattering when the judges were there. For me I preferred H1 > H2.

With the kitchen coming off the upstairs balcony, they can cook in the kitchen and take meals out to the balcony, where you would have an outdoor table and chairs set up. Putting a BBQ out there is a waste of space, IMO.

Yeah it's shithouse isn't it. Wgaf! I would much rather watch someone build a planter box ...Can channel 9 stretch this latest ordeal out to Wednesday
..and what a few people appear to have completely missed in The Block backyards over the years - it's bloody Victoria. Half of that furniture will be ruined after 12 months if left presented the way it is, it will need covers or to be stored away in what is clearly a lack of storage. And they're supposed to be holiday rentals for the most part, right? So we're now going to trust in tenants to ensure that furniture stays good? Sounds like great planning.
Even H1/H2 to me seemed frustrating giving that in so much of the year the space will be unusable due to lack of roof coverage.
For me I preferred H1 > H2. Thought H2's was cluttered a tad too much with furniture, stools and pot plants.
The rest of them I'd put a very distant 3rd/last place.
I feel sorry for Kylie. That would have been pretty awful to go through, especially in such a public way. I don't blame her for leaving. All the paragraphs of the gossip sites got a lot of it wrong. And the predictions that The Block wouldn't show it also proved wrong. Brad is a shit bloke. Mimi is a d!ckhead.
I can't like this enough. This infuriates me every year. Having big couches with white cushions in the elements should get you marked down.
I get you can put them away when you are not using them but eventually someone leaves them out and they are ruined.
