Where does the rate in the grand scale of movies??

for mine, it has to be one of the greats. such a simple idea, executed perfectly. all of us have been one of those charachters at one stage or another. even now as an uncle, i sometimes find myself in the shoes of principal vernon as the strict man, and then in the next minute i'm carl the janitor who just doesn't give a **** about what my nephew is doing....

and the music is just perfectly fitting. simple minds "dont you forget about me" just sums up high school. how many times in high school did we have times that we thought we'd never forget.... well at 24 now i can only remember a handful of those times.

so simple, yet such a perfect summarisation of our teenage years. we all thought we were so different to every other 16-year-old but... but really, at 16 years old we're all the same.

One of those movies you always notice at 1am in the morning and think, meh I can stay up a little longer and watch the rest of this.

I have it on dvd and the poster up on my bedroom wall.

Very good movie.
I don't like the ending but everything leading up to it is really good.

What didnt you like about the ending? I thought they ended it fairly well and more importantly it was realistic.

The fact that Emilio Estevez and the homeless chick hook up when she turns out to be beautiful when done up contradicted what the first three quarters of the movie was about. I didn't like the fact the other two hooked up either.

It was an ending to ensure chicks left the cinema feeling happy.

I am not sure where it rates TBH.

Definitely perfectly directed by John Hughes and well acted by the small cast.

However, I am not sure if people's ratings of this film might be effected by their "age of viewing"... by that I mean that most people normally see it as teenagers whilst experiencing similar themes witin the movie. With teenage years and school being an emotional changing time or a 'coming of age' period I think we connect with the movie at that time. Then we carry the memories of that time and the connection to TBC with us we grow older and look back at it with fondness... and possibly a distorted opinion of the movie. If that all makes sense.

Personally I am curious what people who are 30yo, 40yo or over 50yo think of this movie? That will give a greater indication of how good the movie is... if it transends age barriers (and being a 30yo saw it when they were 16yo doesn't count :p).

All that being said... yeah I love it and the soundtrack .. heck even just that song was a perfect fit.

I'm in my mid 30s and really liked the film when I saw it back in the 80s. I watched it again recently and thought it was ok, but I did find the ending really cheesy.

One major aspect of my enjoyment of the film when watched again years later was remembering how much I liked it back in the day. In other words, if I now watched the film for the first time in my life, I'd probably think it was crap.

I think there is a tendency to look back on things from your youth with rose-coloured glasses. This certainly goes for movies. I find that I don't like a lot of the films I liked 15-20 years ago (certainly not all of them, but a pretty high percentage of them). In extreme cases, I've sat down and watched something I haven't seen for years and have absolutely hated it and wondered how the hell I ever liked it in the first place.

Interestingly, I felt I could relate more to Mr. Vernon's character than any of the students in the film. Teenagers seem to annoy the s**t out of me these days. :)

Does that answer your question? Sincerely yours, The Breakfast Club.:D

Great point didaka, and very true.
Liked it more when I was growing up, but will watch it if and when it is on.
