The Bronny James debate

The aim of the business is primarily to win championships. Lakers have forgotten that.
If you are relying on man 15 on a 1 mill per year deal to win you a championship, you dont have the team to win a championship anyway basically. He broke LeBron James record for shirt sales on day 1 of its release. He is a success already

500,000 x 118 = 59 mill

A guy you have a 5 mill deal to just earnt you 59 mill in 1 day. That money can go to paying off luxury tax and therefore signing a better player up at roster spots 6,7,8 to give the team better bench depth as the next 4 years play out

Don't worry, they're certainly not reliant upon Donuts Bronny to win anything.

Seriously, people believe that jersey sales provide funds for basketball operations for ANY NBA club?

I love fantasy sports!
Well yes. Do you think merchandise selling isn’t a factor in basketball. Shirts are one thing he sold that covered his wages already. You then need to add in things like that sponsorship, public interest and the like

He got 5.5 mill. Do you think he has generated that profit yet ? Of course he has. Would they have generated that if they signed Lonnie Walker instead? Of course not

If you honestly believe that souvenir sales factor in to the Lakers organization's basketball operations, we have absolutely nothing to discuss.

The NBA and each constituent team clearly promote licensing for souvenir production, but those deals are composed of a hefty up front payment, coupled with a percentage rider based on unit sales. These profit centers are completely separate from the day to day (and season to season) team personnel and management operations.

The biggest NBA franchises are now multinational corporations, and run like it.

You really don’t think Lakers got a giant increase on that upfront payments on jersey sales when LeBron signed back on ? That needs to be understood also. LeBron wasn’t staying at Lakers unless they signed Bronny

You need to remember this is 2 years in the making. A ton of contracts and the like were organised way before they read his name out anyway

You can’t sit here and tell me you think Bronny is there for basketball reasons . We all know he is there for money reasons . Based on shirt sales and the like that money seems to be coming in

You insist souvenir sales cover player salaries, then offer napkin estimates based on gross shirt sales that the Lakers will never see (since they're not exactly screen printing T-shirts in the front office to peddle at the Crypto Arena).

There are many, many layers and cooks in between the jersey vendor and the Buss family.

Whatever man, I'm done with this silly subject.

What debate?

He will be the worst player this season in the NBA. This is about Lebrons ego. The best thing to do right by his son would be let him get his confidence up in the G league or NBL for 2 seasons. But Lebron doesn’t have 3 years of his career left so this kid is gonna get humiliated in the NBA.

This goes one of two ways.

He opens the season on the roster, plays a few junk minutes, stinks it up and ends up in the G-League

or

Lebron demands he stay on the roster all season and causes the lakers to implode due everyone else in the organisation knowing that Lebron values himself far above any team success.

Do we think Bronny could turn into a serviceable role player if given the time and appropriate level of play to compete and develop in?

For instance would it have been better for him to go back to College another year, get his confidence up and the nominate for the draft? Followed by an integration to the NBA via the G league?

Basically what I am asking, is there a player there to begin with regarding Bronny who just needs time to develop?

If you think 100 mill in jersey sales isnt covering his 5 mill in wages to the team you are seriously deluded

On a similar topic are the Sabonis father /son potentially the greatest of all time by career end?

I don’t know of many successful ones, was Curry’s dad a top line player?

Thompson father won 2 titles for Lakers.

A player Boston traded for and who earnt nearly double what Bronny is getting this year is your example?

From 2024 id put Bronny at say Jordan Walsh spot and who contributed nothing

Yeah because 1.9 to 1 million is a big difference in NBA contracts. Puts them at the same level.

You said player 15 has nothing to do with winning a championship. Well Tillman was sitting at the end of the bench at times so your assertion is wrong. Came in and contributed in the finals.

He was nowhere near the end of the bench. He was 9/10th in line. Lakers can still make a similar move even with Bronny on the roster

End of the bench was Jordan Walsh. 100% 15th man on that team who did literally zero in the playoff push

How can you possibly make a statement like that?
Do you really think that Nike made 500,000 jerseys for nothing, sold them, collected the money and gave it all to the Lakers?
Stick your head in a bucket of fertiliser and grow a brain.

Obviously they dont get 59 million but they do get some of it. They also get the publicity that comes with it which increases the brands worth.

Lakers have went from 3.3 billion to 7.1 billon valuation since LeBron joined. They went from 6.4 bill to 7.1 bill this year. How much has both LeBron and Bronny contributed to that do we think?

No matter what way you wanna do this, giving 5 mill to Bronny is like putting a grain of dirt into the ocean and calling it dirty in all honesty. He has made his money back
