That is way to hard to only pick 7 players. I pick Dow, Cripps, Murphy, LOB, SPS, Fisher & Kreuzer and left out Curnow, Setterfield, Walsh & Kennedy who I think will play there fair share through the midfield in 2019.

Setterfield and Walsh are both being severely underrated IMO. Both will walk into our starting midfield if they stay injury free!

In saying that it’s good there is finally competition for spots and depth.
I know next to nothing about them & plenty of others would be in the same boat.

Also feel a 'best' 22 should give more weight to exposed form than to potential & hype.

If we wanted easy, I'd have said 'pick 10' and we'd have 90% of us with the same group of players. This makes the forward make up far more interesting and even more so - the battle for the fourth bench spot and emergencies.

The 'Best 25' will be the best this year it has been in a long, long time.

Bolton has to balance up the heavy lifters Kreuzer/Cripps/Kennedy and Ed against the second receivers Dow/Fisher/SPS/LoB/Murphy and then figure out how much factor X he needs in Cuningham/Pickett/Garlett/Fasolo - whilst considering Setterfield/Walsh and Stocker's development..

Winning the ball and moving it effectively between the arcs and into Mcgovern/Charlie/Harry's hands is the next challenge - hiding players like SPS/Fisher as forward pockets or HFF won't achieve that - these two are genuine play makers.

SPS is Kaka, Hazard, Messi - let him play Mid/HF as the last pass to the goalkickers and tear the opposition to shreds

Cripps, Dow & Kennedy must be there for most center bounces in 2019. Can interchange Ed with Kennedy.

a lot of times in 2018 it was Cripps, Ed & Kennedy and it was a shocker.
They need players to feed it to. Just as important as getting it.

I want 11 selected in the 22 each week not including the ruckman

C: Murphy Cripps Fisher
HF: Walsh & Bugg
On Ball: E.Curnow & Dow
Interchange: SPS, Setterfield, Lang & Kennedy

Our forward line will have 4 out and out forwards in Fasolo, McKay, McGovern & Charlie. I'd rotate 2 midfielders through there until a LeBois or Pickett can nail down the small forward role.

That leaves O'Brien, Stocker & Cuningham out of the best 22. But I'd be more than happy for them to come into the side if the 10th & 11th mid isn't in form of there is an injury somewhere in there. Same goes with Jack Silvagni & Polson if people want to classify them as mids.

Tuesday update: Midfield vote up in the air

The Carlton BF Posting Fraternity appear extremely torn regarding the Consensus Midfield selections for 2019.

All-Australian Patrick Cripps (100% votes), Paddy Dow (95.6%) and Matty Kreuzer (89.5%) are already locked in - booking their spot again for the final 22.

However the battle for the remaining four spots is far from over. Zac Fisher (75.4%) and Ed Curnow (73.7%) may have a mortgage on the next two spots on field, but the remaining players hoping for one of the final two positions at this stage include 2018 Captain Marc Murphy (67.5%), Matthew Kennedy (57.9%), the silky and durable Samo Petrevski-Seton (41.2%), #1 Draftee Sam Walsh (40.4%) and Will Setterfides himself (32.5%).

Who will snare the final two spots? Will the Carlton faithful ever agree on anything? Should I have a burger or pasta for dinner? And Does any of this really matter?*

*Please note these questions are rhetorical and do not require an answer.

Yes, we like to smash Essendon.

My 7 Kruezer Cripps Dow Murphy Kennedy SPS and Fisher
This was a little hard to do which is refelcting the depth that we are starting to build in this area of the ground.
Setterfield and Walsh the up an comers to spend more time in there as the seaon develops.

Mmm close for those last few spots Matty411 , which makes it interesting that Cripps has 100% of the vote with 118 votes, Kreuzer has 105 votes, Lobbe 1 and TDK 1...now I'm no rocket surgeon (pun intended) but that means 11 voters haven't included a ruckman.

I think naming and shaming is in order, or maybe we thread ban them from the team selection threads when the season kicks off...I mean how can we trust their opinion on the team Bolts and Co are picking each week if they can't even manage to pick a ruckman in their side!!!

The funny thing about this thread is that if we started with the forwards we'd end up with a completely different team.
Probably very true, Matty may need to run it back in the opposite way and then average the teams to get a "true" concensus

There are a lot of combinations that could be thrown around for our midfield.

The reality is we'll have at least 10 guys running through the middle at various stages.

Will be interesting to see if Docherty moves further up the ground or remains stationed in defense.

Oh my... i just gave some players their first vote in this poll.

Pickett taps it to JSOS, a quick handball to TDK who then spins out of a tackle. A neat 10 metre kick to the gazelle like Lobbe. Lobbe runs his measure and fires out a handball off to Phillips. The fend off by phillips and another to the 2nd would be tackler sets up 2 mids in the clear. LLLLAAAANNNNGGGGG goes straight through his opponent an creates a path for Cuningham. Phillips dishes a sublime handball to Cuningham and he loads up from 55.
GGGGOOOOAAAAALLLLLLLLLLLLL

Lock all 7 of them in for round 1 imo. Silky AF!

The Defenders have Arrived

The people have spoken, and decided on our best 7-man defensive group for 2019. Missing out on selection, ex-Swan Nic Newman seems to be less preferred by the masses at this point - with young Tom Williamson the preferred seventh man. Chosen in the same position in 2018's Consensus Best 22, 'Willo' has incredible potential and could easily play right away if his health troubles are behind him.

The back six hasn't changed much at all in fact, with just the one change from 12 months ago - luckless Irishman and now retired defender Ciaran Byrne making way for new co-captain Sam Docherty. The same names are likely to grace the park should injuries be kind to us - with Jones, Weitering and Marchbank the talls and Simpson, Doc and the underrated Lachie Plowman the 3 smaller types.

Stay tuned for the midfielders as we launch into voting on Monday.

OP updated to reflect votes for defenders. All 7 players chosen will now be ineligible for other positions.
I’m gonna go out on a limb, and say Cripps will be in the mix for our midfield group...

I know, I know. I’m crazy!
