Some people leaving him out to name him in the forwards. Same goes for Fish & Samo.

True.

Can see Murph being named at HF and then being part of the midfield rotation. Ideally more outside. I don't see him playing extensively as a forward next year.

In my mind, he's third picked in the midfield:

1. Cripps
2. Kreuz
3. Murph

None of our young Bolton era mids have consistenly shown high production.

Indeed. It is up to youngsters like Fisher, SPS, Setterfield and Cuningham taking their opportunity when got time in engine room developing so much we have luxury of using Murphy more on flanks and outside on the wing. Might even get another year or two out of Murphy if he can play wing. I'd love to see Murphy do a Shane Crawford type thing and his work load eased in midfield but still part of team when we win the 2021 grand final. Then he can retire.

But at moment, those young punks got to step up their work rate over four quarters to relieve Murphy on his prime task to be a major midfielder at the moment.
Those four if get big pre-seasons into them are likely to see one or two do just that. So I do expect Murphy to spend less time in there as season goes on.

I've gone with...

Locked:
Cripps, Dow, Ed, Kruezer

Less certain:
  • Kennedy - to help Crippa
  • Walsh - gun, got to give him as much time as possible
  • Murphy - will play better with a stronger team

SPS, Fisher can play in the forward line
Setterfield needs to be on the bench somewhere

I'm really looking forward to finally having proper competition for spots and the team selection each week.
Exciting time!

Not sure why people think Zac Fisher can play in the forward line? He is an out and out wingman and a good one at that. Both Carlton and Fish benefit from him playing the role he is born to play.

I don't disagree with that at all and certainly prefer him round a stoppage, but if the midfield clicks in time, with the likes of Cripps, Kennedy, Dow, Walsh, Stocker, SPS, LOB....I can see Fisher being our best small forward, when resting there

P.S No I didn't forget Kruiz; Just consider Lobbe better CS starting ruckman.

have changed my vote 3 times. Thought I should pick the midfield based on needs rather then just the 7 best midfielders seeing as they have to play together as a team not as individuals.

Ruck: Kreuzer (best asset - follow up, negates need for too many inside bulls)
Centre: Dow (inside and outside mid, want this kid to play more in the middle as he matures)
RR: Cripps (elite)
Rover: Fisher ( this kid is quality and could be elite)

Wing: O'Brien (left footed outside runner who can provide cover four less fleet footed)
Wing: Murphy (right footed, can go inside, extend career by playing outside, can kick a goal or two)

Bench: SPS (can play inside and out - this will be his breakout year)

Unlucky - Walsh (see below), Ed (he will play regularly when we need to lockdown players), Kennedy & Setterfield (Setterfield may force his way in by year end but along with Kennedy I went with inside mids who can play outside as I think the game will depend more covering run)
I am assuming we will get to vote on the last interchange rather than just the luck loser, my tip will then be another mid and would give it to Walsh (if the kid is as good as they say inside and out)

Had to reflect on who I would play as the two fleet footed mids up forward to check I had team balance - options were Murphy, Fisher, SPS, Cuningham, Picket, Polson. I think Murphy and Fisher are probably better equipped but prefer them in my midfield resting forward. I am not sure that SPS is a forward so will put Polson and Cuningham in (come on Richie this is your last chance).

The Engine Room is Complete

After exhaustive vote, spanning almost an entire week - we have come to a Consensus Midfield. The notable thing to come out of this are the names who miss out - Petrevski-Seton, O'Brien, Walsh and Setterfield the names who were unlucky.

But those that were successful are genuine guns and great choices.

First up, our ruckman; our big man; our heart and soul - Matthew Kreuzer with 132 votes. Interesting that many chose not to select a ruckman at all. But make no mistake - Big K is in our best side as long as he's on two legs.

Next up is our new co-captain and All-Australian midfield enforcer every team would love to have. P. Cripps - 3 votes. With the highest amount of votes of any midfielder, he's a lock until the day he retires.

Paddy Wow surprised a few in 2018 and has already cemented himself into our best starting quartet. Look out for him to take a big leap next season.

upload_2018-12-6_11-18-8.png

Fast becoming a fan-favourite, Zac Fisher has bounced and ducked and weaved his way into our hearts - securing a spot on our wing and readying himself for a huge year ahead.

upload_2018-12-6_11-18-16.png

Curnow senior is one of the great stories of our current side and leads the way on the track as well as giving 110% every game he plays. Underrated by some (still!), Ed is in our best midfield - whether that's negating an opposition player or collecting the pill at will himself.

upload_2018-12-6_11-18-24.png

Our 2018 captain may have some detractors, but he's still incredibly highly rated at the club. A release from captaincy duties should free him up for an even better season in 2019. Marc Murphy starts on field again in our Consensus midfield.

upload_2018-12-6_11-18-31.png

Finally, the 7th spot was split a few ways this time round - with #1 Draftee Sam Walsh, Halls Creek Cowboy SPS and Will Setterfides all polling well. But it was ex-Giant and inside bull Matt Kennedy who came out ahead. If he's ready to roll come Round 1, expect him to line up against the Tigers.

upload_2018-12-6_11-18-39.png

Well done, team. Now onto the hardest vote yet - the forwards, where we'll see a few of the above names pushing forward to test our specialist forwards for selection.

Onward and Upward!

That might have something to do with him having played off half-forward for most of his career.

There isn't a side in the competition that plays six forward inside 50 right now, and outside of the centre bounce there won't be next year either.

Think of him as a winger that doesn't run both ways consistently.
