So last year it would have been in Carlton's best interests for the home and away season to finish in June, and this year it would have been in their best interests for it to start in June?

Once you can put a full season together, you'll then become a genuine contender.

I'm pretty comfortable with where Carlton are sitting. Form is sublime & injury free at the business end of the year.

If only the AFL gave out trophies for the minor premership then Collingwood would have something to show for this year.

Your mob better start praying Melbourne don't go 0-2 to finish the year or else it's straight sets.

Isn't it awesome that instead of just being able to talk a big game between October and March before reality hits, you can still talk a big game in August (albeit from the bottom half of the top 8 and notwithstanding the fact you were nowhere to be seen in May/June).....

You’ll find plenty of people keen to engage in these roundabout go-nowhere exchanges on Bay13.

You’ve got my blessing 😘

I wouldn't get too cocky, the AFL has a lot to gain from a Carlton premiership.
If they are in their finals games, they'll get across the line.

The goal umpire?

Collingwood
Bris/Port (whoever ends up second).

However I can still see either team getting to the grand final even losing the first final.

Fingers crossed Port are starting click at the right time.

Oh, and go Collingwood tomorrow.

Bluea can still miss finals, cant they?

Yet are 3rd favourite ?
Yeah they can miss out

An exciting scenario is they lose this week and then the final game of the season decides who make the 8 or not between GWS/Carlton... but other results have to go a certain way.

Boooooooooooooooooo

I think it requires Saints winning one and losing one, which is VERY likely because St Kilda.

This is one scenario where GWS will play Carlton with the winner finals bound

Upsets are:
GC beating Carlton
St Kilda beating Geelong
Bulldogs beating Geelong
Sydney beating Adelaide or Melbourne by a bigger margin than they lose (to make up percentage) or win both

I don't think Brisbane are a top 2 team in the comp, however if they win tomorrow night which is a 50/50, they have a foot in the door to the GF. I'm not sure anyone can match them at the Gabba

Adelaide matched Brisbane last week at the Gabba. If it’s close with 10 minutes to go I don’t like our chances anywhere.

Pies still number 1.

Then Dees and Lions equal 2nd

Blues are fast rising but i feel it just takes 1 loss and the blues will soon come down like a lead balloon.

Its definately a blue wave and they are riding it well thus far.

Still got a bit to got eg Lions and Pies.

I have a gut feeling that Pies play Port in the QF1 week 1 finals and play Brisbane or Melbourne in the GF.

Only time there can be a Pies Blues game will either be in the semi finals or if ever there was the big one in the Grand Final.

I have Blues ahead of Port and should have ended in 4th and play Pies week 1.

Alas seams like in the GF.

Pies are just settling back and its a case of working thorugh these next 2 matches but kind of a match sim.

I feel other then that one of the Sydney teams will make to week 2 in finals.

I have blues making a prelim.

Port are the one to go out in straights.

Seems ideal to have your best players rested for ‘nothing’ games.
Not ideal when you want to get some momentum leading into finals.

I'm not sure whether you're being facetious when you reference 'nothing' games, but the reality is that if we lose our final two home and away games we still finish second at worst and get the double chance and home final.

Only way Carlton enter the top 4 chances of a flag for mine is if we finish the season in the top 4.

Only 1 team in the history of the top 8 has made it to a flag in 23 years (the Dogs), and only 3 teams have made it to the GF from outside the top 4.

If the stars align and we make top 4, or Melbourne and the Pies finish 1 and 2 and it plays out we don't have to go through an interstate final to make the GF I might change my position.

But we're 5th favourite for mine at present despite recent form. History has shown the difficulty in winning (or even reaching) the last game of the year from outside the top 4 is almost always a bridge too far.

you mean missing a soft outside seagull and admittedly one of the best defenders who doesnt defend anyone?

theyve been kissed on the d with injuries compared to the rest of the comp.
You should be rooting for a Collingwood win and the Lions getting missing out on a top 2 stop.

Carlton's path to a Grand Final will be easier if they avoid Lions at the Gabba
