The first episode was so good I watched it twice.

Well maybe not that good but I watched it a 2nd time with subtitles because I was unclear on some of the language. A Martian is a duster :p

So I enjoyed it and as is typical of SyFy the actors were a bit stiff. I have learnt to forgive this and let them warm into their roles before being too harsh. Looks like we have 2 protagonists with the Ice Miner XO Holden and the Fedora wearing detective Miller.

At first I thought the guys visiting the Scopuli were the red shirts but I enjoyed the twist of having the entire Cant as the red shirters even if a little gruesome :p "eject the ice" would it have helped them though?

So the stealth ship is Martian? Looking to start a war over whatever secrets the Scopuli holds?

I enjoyed the way they showed how valuable water and air really are. At first I was like "Why would an ice mining ship be that big?" Then it dawns on you that water is the most precious thing in this universe and the costs don't really matter.

Of course a part of me really cringes at the amount of wasted space. Vaulted ceilings on a spaceship will never be done outside of scifi. It's just poor engineering and in space the laws of physics tell you that carrying around dead weight is stupid. I guess I just have to get over that tv studio scifi is always going to make things larger than they should be just for the "cool set" factor

I can't wait for the next episode. :D

Like I said in the Upcoming TV Shows thread, I thought the pilot was okay. It wasn't anything special. Mind you, I thought the same of Dark Matter and ended up really enjoying it so hopefully this gets better.

I was on the edge of my seat during that siege.

Special effects, costumes, scripting were all spot on.

A little bit gory with the whole head thing. I guess somebody had to put on the red shirt at some point. Looks like he'll be replaced by our Martian interrogator :)

Remember the Cant? I'll remember the Donnager :thumbsu:

I like that they don't have magical "inertial dampers" like Star Trek and the laws of physics apply. They have the juice which explains how they survive high G acceleration.

There is plenty of attention to detail here and I hope it continues.

flight23 I'm not sure if you're a scifi kinda guy (I'm not generally), but 4 episodes in and this is a pretty good show. Has a lot of elements to it and the sci fi bits aren't poorly done.

B5 & BSG are my two favourite shows so am a hard nerd to please, but 4 episodes in and i am really impressed. the narrative is interesting and they've done a great job creating a believable setting with what i presume is a limited budget. would like to be getting a bit more excited about the acting but the leads have been more than serviceable so far.

it's been too long since a competent space series graced tv.

cheers for the tag man

can do sci fi love me some Fringe and X Files and have done BSG and even Continuum

will give it a crack at some point

I'm 2 and a half episodes in. It is good. Which is good because good space operas are sparse.

Someone at Syfy must have fallen asleep, first decent show they've made in 5 years :p

Book based. Still you gotta adapt it.

Latest episode.

Seems to me like the Rocinante is central to the plot and gives the heroes something to cruise around in. Establish it quick and get it out of the way.

continue to be impressed with every aspect of the show.

fun fact: I read that the books had their beginnings as a roleplaying game, and one of the players could no longer make the gaming sessions so his character got killed off suddenly ;)

Good set up.

So it's a rouge Earth faction? Julie's dad lol

That UN dude is obviously in on it. Chrisjen is onto it though.

So Miller joins the crew of the Roci and off we go. Eros is now a big glowing blue monster thingy.

If I may nitpick,

Show could use a better budget. Not for the space scenes, but some of the sets!

Space is cold so they all wear body suits. Makes sense. But Naomi always shows cleavage so the audience can masturbate after the episode.
