The Farce that is the free kick differential number

True, it would be subjective if teams had players or staff retire or if they recruited new players or staff but that never happens.

I am sure champion data and the league in general would be open to you coming up with a better method of rating a draw other than last years ladder position.

I look forward to seeing what you can come up with

Never said there was a better method. I'm simply saying it's way less than accurate.

UMpires destroyed us again today.

19 to 14.

Almost cost us the game
At half-time it was 5-11 which meant in our last 4 quarters of football we had received 6 free kicks and conceded 25! Then the 2nd half opened with an incorrect goal review, which doesn't appear in the stats, but looked potentially costly for a while.

The one I can't fathom, and have never really understood (so hopefully someone can help me out here), is how Carlisle is reported by the umpire yet there is no 50m penalty. Let's say he is suspended, then that only benefits the Saints opponent next week and not the team he has allegedly offended against.

The carlisle hit was included as a free kick stat too even though he marked it, then no 50. haha

The Crows were down by 9 points at ½ time while being about 10 behind in the free kick count. Most of the below video is from the first half. There were ‘junk time frees’ in the last quarter to even the count up.

You also concede that the 2016 umpires were terrible - but the AFL rewarded 2 of the Umpires with the 2017 GF.

Well that is pretty conclusive proof that Richmond get special treatment from the umpire...but hang on...isn’t this a thread about how tough it is for Richmond and how they don’t get freed?

That's a really accurate video, right down to the scoreboard.

i'm a firm believer of to understand umpiring you must understand what the AFL wants and needs.

In yesterday's Cass it was helping hawks make the 8, they tried very hard in the first half, the game was basically touch footy and making up things as they go, a kicking in danger was plucked out of no where, luckily it did not affect the result but it make if a horrible watch there was no flow what so ever.

Very true post

Afl s working on a tight outcome
They would love a last round with lots of live teams
Build a new stadium seems to help too

It's all about getting some fly by night supporters who naturally are immigrants who support winning teams

Dodgy at best

A lot of Richmond supporters in this thread posting about "being hard done by", citing examples of contentious/incorrect decisions and denying that their play style is a large factor.

I get that you feel aggrieved based on the raw free kick numbers (even though they alone don't tell the whole story), but what exactly are you alleging is the cause of this?

I think that west coast get a dream run from the umpires when compared to Richmond .

I believe this due to the free kick differential ladder.

I also believe that getting all these free kicks gives a team an advantage in winning games.

Richmond frees for 18.2 against 24.4 so yep they give a lot of frees away.

West Coast frees for 22 against 19.2

Norths frees for 24.2 against 19.9.

So the Eagles are rated sixth in the comp, the way you Tigers on here are whinging I would have thought the Eagles would have been much better off.

But lets not let facts get in the way of a good dummy spit!

In some cases the umpires are looking for specific infringements by Richmond and are consequently less attentive to infringements against Richmond.

Exhibit A: the spate of "protected zone" 50's in the season opener.

Will add that I thought the umpires did a reasonable job for the vast majority of last Saturday's game. Lost the plot for a bit in the third quarter though.

Um no.

This thread was created straight after the loss to the Eagles and a gaggle of Tigers posters had a good whinge about how the Eagles get the rub of the green more than any other club.

The facts are the Eagles are sixth in frees differential. Is that a farce?

No it is not.

Looks like your ruck and the tigers style of play has alot to do with the frees against.

I also liked the facts about Shuey and high frees.

But carry on plodding along in your fantasy world based on a lack of emotional intelligence.
