Shield The Final - South Australia vs Queensland at Karen Rolton Oval, 26-30 March 2025

McSweeney has been really disappointing since returning to the side, his confidence honestly seems a bit shot.

Hunt's second half of the season has also been below par.

Let’s review the 1st Day’s play….

SA won the toss and send them in - brave move

They drop Khawaja twice before he checks out with a nothing sort of pull - more questions than answers there

Then Marnus falls to a very clever trap, but as an International bat you would expect / want something better than that, then Clayton has a complete brain explosion, Lovell nicks off and McDermott chips one back to the bowler and its 5/22!

A rearguard from Neser (who else) and Peirson gets them to 68 before the super impressive Doggett rips out Peirson and before you know it all out 95, Doggett with 6/32, well supported by the unlucky McAndrew & Buckingham.

SA’s turn to have a bat, Hunt goes hard at Vidler for a duck, McSweeney got a good ball and nicked off and and its 2/29. Sangha then plays like a millionaire and makes it 3/41 with a shot that should have NTBS put against his name by Australian Selectors. The dogged McInerney gets strangled down the legside (as did Scott later on) Carey and Lehmann restored some sanity and got them to a first innings lead before Carey chopped on when he probably should have been looking to Day 2.

All in all an engrossing day but I’m disappointed with the standard. Some terrible batting for this level and in all honesty i don’t think the wicket got anyone out.

To be fair, there was some decent hoopage out there.

Plenty of cheap dismissals though, you're right.

Does seem a bit in the wicket but yes certainly not enough to explain 16 dismissals.

Have to be happy with where we're at, I think batting til lunch tomorrow is a reasonable expectation to put us well ahead of the game. C'mon!!!! Does suck though as it's looking like the game won't even reach Saturday.

Glad we didn't drop Lehmann for Kelly a few months back
Lehmann has had a habit of making a 50 or 100 to save his spot in the team right when he's on the verge of being dropped, but he's really stepped up this season. Did it against the Vics to secure the home final and is being part of a pivotal partnership here. If we can conjure up another 90-odd runs and get to a 150 lead, then we'll be in a very strong position.

Not counting the chickens yet though given SA's past.
