Ah but this very conspiracy that many conspirators throughout history have gotten away with conspiracies is a conspiracy itself made up by conspirators who have themselves gotten away with conspiracies about other conspiracies throughout history:thumbsu:
Haha.

Awesome post.

You can actually see the buildings disappearing over the horizon.
High tide! :p

Are you an all-knowing-all-seeing deity?
Deity? You're fixated about deities aren't you. No, I just use the common sense rule, you should try it some time.
Common sense tells me that human beings have survived near extinction events in the past, and we will in the future.
You should tell me about your theory on all-knowing-all-seeing deities. I'm pretty safe in assuming they are vastly different to my idea.
I think you're ideas about deities are very limited, and they are probably weighted with prejudices.

We've been on this rock for a few minutes and you're trying to tell me that humans have survived "near extinction" events, like they're some sort of common occurrence?

We haven't been here long enough to have seen shit, and you're just guessing that we'll survive anything in the future.

Also, that was really odd how one mention of the word deity, and you flip out about how I'm fixated by them. Weird. Really weird.

Common sense also tells me a 5km rock slamming the Earth faster than a bullet will pretty much be a global extinction event. Humanity has never faced a situation like this before, nothing we have survived compared to that.

Also, common sense tells me you can't predict the future so you can't really be stating things as factual.

Common sense has something else to say too - you're underestimating the damage a large asteroid can do, and you seem clueless on that part.

The near extinction events that have brought human beings to the edge haven't been limited to comets. There's plenty of dangerous things already on the planet.

That's not true. Volcanoes can fill the atmosphere with enough debris to block out the Sun for months or years.

But that's not what we're talking about. You said that man will not be wiped out by a random asteroid, and how are you to know that?

Fact is we're a small floating rock in the middle of an endless void that we know little about, but you're talking like we know all and can influence everything around us.

We are at the mercy of the universe.

It's a big place. Lot of empty space out there for asteroids to hang out in without worrying about getting all explodey out our way.

I'm not worried. We might not see an asteroid big enough to wipe us out for a million lifetimes.

... By which time we would, in all likelihood, have already blown ourselves up anyway.

Anyone who believes the earth is flat is flat-out ******ed.

you believe the earth is a spinning ball.

i only read the first page of this thread and what seemed like typical footy fans with knee-jerk replies. of course something like this would be met like that though, to you guys "the earth is flat" is a really old conspiracy theory that is outdated now, as one guy said "can't believe you think this in 2015". but that is extremely closed minded isn't it? you read some "truth" some time ago and that's the truth forever? 500 years ago everyone "knew" the earth was flat in the same way everyone on the first page "knows" the earth is a spinning ball. what you know was really only fed to you and you know nothing personally about the subject so i think it's quite the statement to say one way or the other when really you have to rely on lying politicians and CGI images of earth. those images are CGI by the way - they don't take photographs of earth, they create them.

i personally obviously have no idea and lean neither way because i've never been interested in space or anything to begin with. i am however fascinated by people and their reactions to things like this.

Do you really live your life completely oblivious to the knowledge that the earth is either a sphere, a flat disk, or something else? Sure - you can. That's how the majority of people for the majority of human history have lived - it makes no difference what shape the earth is - if I walk this way for 2 days, I get to the next village etc.

Do you really have no interest in scientific questions that cannot be answered by your own, personal experience? Do you only interpret events as they appear to your limited perspective? EG - the Sun, moon and stars all rotate in the sky above us - and they look a few miles away.
