There are reasons for these indirect flights such as cabotage rules and basic economics. A handful of direct southern hemisphere only routes exist. It's simply a supply and demand issue why there aren't more. I think a few of the examples in that link may have since been nuked by covid.

If the Earth is flat and is in a locked in system, why are there seasons and temperature variations.
I mean, it’s winter here and it’s over 30 degrees.
How does a locked in system account for this temperature variation?
Alternatively, a meteorologist can easily explain this, however, it relies on phenomena that can’t exist in a flat system.
