Re: The Great Beat-Up: The Drug Problem at West Coast

As far as yourself being a journalist what has that got to do with it? You could be the Pope and it still wouldn't matter. ;)
The fact that I'm a journalist protects me from your argument that West Coast supporters are too quick to blame journalists for giving the Eagles a hard time.

I am an Eagles supporter and a journalist.

Re: The Great Beat-Up: The Drug Problem at West Coast

Because you asked me why I have a problem with Cousins getting boozed.
Do you have a problem with him getting boozed or a problem with him dodging a booze bus?

Either way, why do you have that problem?

Why do you care?

Re: The Great Beat-Up: The Drug Problem at West Coast

I don't have a detailed knowledge of him.

I know that he's pretty highly-decorated.

Thanks for your honest answer .. If thats the case and what you have said above being a highly decorated reporter. Do you think he would write something like he did which caused all these threads and reports without some kind of confidence ???

What Ive heard not one person has attacked Andrew Rule personally .

What argument are you trying to make?

Re: The Great Beat-Up: The Drug Problem at West Coast

What argument are you trying to make?

You are stating in these threads that you work in the industry and would`nt write stuff like the article that caused this issue . Yet from what i hear Andrew Rule would`nt write something without evidence ..Would he ?

Its up the Fletcher to refute it. He has`nt and all the talk of legal action has vanished and no way in the world is FLetcher or his Manager Colin Young going to take him on ...Mr Gooding no way mentioned legal action ...

Surely you would acknowledge this fact ?

Being in the industry I am sure you will reseach some of Andrew Rules work . Once again he is not a sports reporter .

Thanks

Re: The Great Beat-Up: The Drug Problem at West Coast

Err, didn't Dalton Gooding admit to there being a drug issue at the club?

Yeah, but apparently they don't want to accept that.

I'm curious as to why they have come out and said this on the footy show. Are they softening us up for a big story....a little bit of pre emptive PR damage control maybe?

Whatever the reason, noone volunteers that kind of information.

Prepare for the big one.

I'm not saying that he made the whole thing up, but for me to assess its truth, there actually needs to be something other than hearsay on the table.

Also, a lot of his article pertains to ill-discipline rather than drug use.

Surely you would acknowledge this fact ?
I do not accept that just because legal proceedings have not been launched that every unsupported allegation that has been made is true.

Re: The Great Beat-Up: The Drug Problem at West Coast

Hey Gunnar what paper do you work for?

Are you Kim Hagdorn? You write about the same amount of crap he does every Sunday.

Re: The Great Beat-Up: The Drug Problem at West Coast

What's your argument?

Are you saying that just because West Coast haven't sued, every word of every claim about drug use is obviously true?

That's pretty simplistic.

You are the king of simplicity in this debate.

You know as well as I do that Fletcher is copping a trial by media.

Was ignoring the issue working??

Dalton Gooding obviosly thinks not.

But then you know better than Dalton.

Don't you Cadet.

The rest of your post was pointless.

Well here it is again.

As for your statement that "you don't care what players do in their spare time", or words to that effect.

Tough bikkies chump!!

The AFL and the AFLPA brought in the drug testing regime anf it is here to stay, and may well be strengthened in the near future.

It is embedded in the players code of conduct, so build a bridge and get over it.

Maybe, if you are so outraged about it, you should have lobbied the AFL before it was implemented.

.

Doesn't seem pointless at all to me.

Actually, all it is, is cold hard fact!!

Care to answer it??

Where did I say that no Eagles supporters are journalists?
Talk about a long bow.
Are you trying to big note yourself in front of the kiddies that read BF?

Re: The Great Beat-Up: The Drug Problem at West Coast

This Fletcher thing was mentioned on SEN ages ago. It was early December I think. The boys on the morning show were talking about it.

Why has it re-surfaced now?? You would have thought that if Fletcher did OD and flatline it would have been a huge story then and not now.

Did anyone else he about it last year??

Re: The Great Beat-Up: The Drug Problem at West Coast

This whole issue of drugs in AFL, and of West Coast supposedly being the worst offenders, is a total beat-up.

Rumour and innuendo are no substitute for real evidence, but that hasn't stopped commentators from inflating this issue at every opportunity.
Bingo. No arrests. No charges. No test results. Nada. Just the same old same old recycled and amped up to sound like there's something new.

I've come to the conclusion that the media has realised that it can only sell positive stories about a club to 1/16 of AFL fans, but it can sell negative stories on the same club to 15/16 of them, so it's going with the numbers. And if the facts don't support the narrative, just refer to allegations in someone else's article, because they wouldn't be printed unless they were true, would they?

I'll take a journalist's word on drugs in football when they submit to regular, random drug testing themselves. Tell me Patrick Smith's articles aren't drug-affected. Go on.

Call me cynical. I dare you.

I think poor old Patricks problem is the vodka on the cornflakes.

Not the white sprinkles he puts on top.

BTW You are cynical!!;)

Re: The Great Beat-Up: The Drug Problem at West Coast

Yeah - his logic was just too flawless for me to handle.

Do you believe your own tripe?

Jealous Eagles knockers have been having a field day this week, as though it is only the Eagles who are involved in drugs, and not their own holier than thou players.

In the next couple of weeks there are going to be further revelations, when the results of the past year's drugs tests are released.

Don't be too surprised if other clubs are implicated.
