I've still got 2 original lace-up jumpers; a Port Adelaide one purchased in 1980 (Port won the flag that year) and a Collingwood jumper I wore in U19s and Reserves from '76-79, getting replacement logos for that to restore it. I used to have a Richmond one (my favourite...bought in 1975), St Kilda (for my junior footy club) West Adelaide and Sturt, but alas no longer . They were so comfortable to wear.....and hard to tackle.

You are correct, Carlton never had a player who sported a lace up jersey. The overlapping monogram would not have worked with a lace up.

It could’ve worked. Both Sturt and South Adelaide have monograms and they wore lace ups in the past.

Yes, but their monograms were not interlocking. They had a monogram akin to Fitzroy, which was cut out of one piece of cloth. Carlton had a monogram that had each letter overlapping the other. It would have been too complicated to apply such a monogram to a lace up jumper.

Retail stores sold lace up jerseys of all the teams, and the Carlton one had a simple monogram cut from the same piece of cloth. A friend of mine had one.
