In either case, should the opinions of posters who don't support the Lions count? There seem to be quite a few of them in this poll, but I'm thinking it's very easy for a non-Lions supporter to just go "yes" or "no" without having to worry about any of the issues belonging only to the supporters of the club.

Something I posted on one of the many other Jumper Debates.

If we wear the Fitzroy jumper once or twice a year in Melbourne I will have no issues.

Sorry, but not keen enough to now follow the Brisbane Lions....yet still comment on what should happen with the jumper!.........hmmmm..

I've never been a Fitzroy/Brisbane supporter, I've been Carlton all my life. Despite this I spent every year at the Brunswick Street Oval at Fitzroy family days, as I said my grandfather was vice president, my nana was in the lionesses forever and a day and most of my family are now Brisbane. My dad and sister are one-eyed and I go to a lot of melb Brisbane games when my boys aren't playing.
I didn't want to come in here to argue or try to rub people the wrong way but I genuinely do care about the Roys jumper.

i dont see any poll with THIS EXACT STRAIGHT FORWARD QUESTION, so i dont care how sick of it anyone is, if everyones so sick of it i wonder why so many people reply .

its got nothing to do with who supports what when or how, obviously im a lions supporter, im talking about wearing a jumper here, not cutting our players ba**s off, i love the Brisbane lions just as much as everyone else here but its great to show some homecoming when THE OTHER HALF of the Brisbane.... LIONS gets to see our original vfl/afl jumper

Ex-Fitzroy supporters have never considered the feelings of ex-Bears supporters in the merger ...

I felt for ex-Bears supporters and I'd say most ex-Fitzroy did as well. How could we not?? You lot are just the meat in the sandwich like us mugs...

It sucked for all of us and it's the AFL and the original Brisbane Lions board where all the animosity was directed by Fitzroy supporters. There might have been the odd exception.

Let's face it, you wouldn't like it if the Brisbane Lions played their Melbourne games in an old Bears jumper?

I'd have no problem with the Lions playing a handfull of games in the Bears guernsey each year if Ex-bears were keen on that. Wouldn't worry me in the slightest.

thats a good point bigcat, but in saying that maybe its good to get an opinion from an outsider... sometimes emotions take over, we're talking about a jumper here remember? not changing our teams name, our list & relocating the club to Melbourne..

There is a difference between caring about something and having an opinion that matters on something IMO. A club is primarily for its true supporters, although it is good to have quasi-followers.

To be honest FL, i think if you had been around for most of the season you may understand where people are coming from. Even though your intentions are sound, it is an emotional issue that has been debated ad nausem.

An analogy could be along the lines of if you had been overseas for a year and posted a thread on the Eagles board saying "Isn't Judd/Cousins the most irreplaceable midfield duo in the AFL?". You may have the best intentions , but i wouldn't be surprised if you got some emotional responses.

You're definetely not alone. By the looks of the poll there are many from other Victorian clubs who have a soft spot for the Fitzroy guernsey which isn't suprising. Your background around the club would make it even more so.

thanks for the support reluctant Lion.... i apologise to everyone if i caused any problems, i went through the sticky thread and didn't see any polls with this exact question... excuse me if im wrong, i don't know why everyones getting a little touchy about this, remember there is supporters from both clubs who merged that have gone on to support our team we now have with great loyalty.

I don't think theres anything wrong with us getting to see the old Fitzroy jumpers in action again here in our old home Melbourne, if your an ex bears supporter then you probably wouldn't understand, its not a matter of getting over anything but if i was to get technical Fitzroy's club history goes back many decades before the bears.

If anyone is "sick of the topic" then don't reply to it, i was asking for peoples opinion on the question not the thread itself, i can't believe how our own supporters have treated this issue, pretty disappointing .

I would have been open to an equal view if it was to do with the bears.

Don't be so damn patronising to the ex Bears supporters!!...We understand very well the feelings of the merger....but yes, we HAVE moved on.....you dont see us going on and on about wanting to wear the Bears jumper when they play at the Gabba......our team (yes, yours and mine) is now the Brisbane Lions.......embrace them once and for all, with gusto......the past cannot be changed.......but at some time, the past has to be let go, to be able to move forward........I'm looking forward to season 2008 already with excitement!.......and seeing the players wearing the Brisbane Lions guernsey!!..

I think the posts in the last few hours have shown why we need to stand back and just see what happens. We are dancing the exact same dance we have danced for the last 6 months. We have had that many threads I can nearly write the thread and what each person is going to say before it is started.

PS: This is not a straight forward question as there is no answer that meets my stance or other Big Footy posters who I have discussed this with stance.

alright mate well lets get things straight, definitely a true lions man having grown up in brunswick, and my familys following dating back many years, i apologise once again for causing any disruptions amongst the forum, as pointed out by fellow members i only just joined this community, i read a few articles related to the guernsey issue but i didnt see anything with a straight out poll like this, so i apologise again!! for causing any problems... anyway that aside i hope to enjoy discussing our team with fellow supporters from now on... and not being battered by my own mates
