The club took a gamble and it backfired. Won't be the first or last time it happens. Same could have happened to the Hawks with Rioli, but the gamble paid off.

So, as we said, the coach had the say and his decision was to let Ricciuto make the call. A fair thing to do for a guy who is a club great and knows his body better than anyone. I also notice the bit you conveniently left out where he talks about it not being the injury, but just had a bad game in the forward line.

Odds were clearly stacked against the Camries before the first bounce because you played one short due to your selfish captain.
So we agree, it was Roo's call to play that day and he chose to go out there unfit and lost the game for you
So tell me how valuable Michael Wilson's 7 kicks and 1 mark were in the 2004 GF? Was it his leadership that was important or his physical condition? He did not lay one tackle for the whole day. Should he have put his hand up and opted out? You will come back with 'but we won', but the point is that Wilson took the place on the field at the expense of a fit player. Could just as easily have backfired.

Play is a strong word. He sort of hung around out there at the expense of a fit player and 'courageously' laid no tackles, not one handball and 7 kicks.

Does not matter if Wilson had minmal stats. He played his part in helping the team win.
And one thing is for sure, he stayed on the ground a lot longer than what token game Roo did.
