Yeah the whole colour consistency thing is probably my biggest gripe with Lego at the moment. It seems to be a new-ish issue, possibly caused by an increase in the number of factories.

I don't notice it in white, for example, on Saturn V, but it is apparent on the Shuttle. Different reviewers on YT have commented on it on Concorde, and I have some on Eldorado Fortress.

The most disappointing one I have is the sand green on the Typewriter. In bright light I can see four different shades.

As a premium product this really shouldn't still be an issue.

With my broken hand healed, I decided I'd start sorting my Voltron PAB order today. I realised I'd never gotten around to posting pictures - this is what a 2000-piece PAB order looks like (ie. a nightmare.)

I'm dreading this and I haven't even opened the bags...

I think the whole concept of building a set from PAB is awesome. Kudos :thumbsu:

(I wonder if I could do Emerald Night?)

What a ****ing disaster.

I’ve sorted them… and the very first piece I need, I don’t have. I’m going to have to go through all the receipts and see if I screwed up or they did.

I didn’t think it looked like 2000 pieces

Got to go in the cockpit of a British Airways 747 nearly 40 years ago now while cruising at 30000+ feet

The view was unreal, UNREAL
I remember asking what certain switches were for and pointed up to one , there was a few of them, and the air hostess said don't touch them and quickly moved my hand down
I believe it was the ones that shut down an engine in case of emergency ?
I think that's what one of the pilots said, I remember them being above me and looked toggle type

Back then u got a badge and a book signed by the capt and a postcard of the actual plane
Sadly theyre long gone

People over the road from us went to France on holidays a bit and fly by concorde a few times
Was very jealous as a youngster

Absolutely ****ing gutted.

I've been wanting the Voltron for months. I've been staring at the bags for 7 weeks since I broke my hand.

And as I mentioned above, the very first piece I needed, I didn't have.

An hour going back and forth with an agent on the Lego site, and we learn:

  • My PAB order is about 200 pieces short of the Voltron piece count.
  • without identifying all the individual pieces, there's been a lot of piece deletions. That's what happened with the first piece - the main "backbone" of each of the transformer tigers is a deleted piece. The bloke I spoke to guesstimates that of the 200 pieces that I'm short, probably up to 150 of them were deleted pieces
  • which meant there was no real way to replace them. He said we could talk about alternate colours, but I just wasn't interested.

So I'm devastated. I mean, Lego customer service is always great, so I think they'll let me return the $400 order(s)... but I wanted the Voltron.

A couple of weeks ago I saw the actual toy that I had in the 80s (not the lego version) in a vintage toystore, I might just go buy that.

I've still got my original Voltron toys!!

And Lego Voltron is a bucket list buy for me, but do I chance ebay and get a set with missing pieces ?

That sucks, man :(. Have you had a look at bricklink? 200 pieces would be manageable if you don't want to return what you have. There are specialist sellers there who will have the correct colours for the vintage and the like.

Nah, I think I've given up. If I ever do it, it'll just be bending over for one of the scab resellers.

Good lesson to learn I guess, that you can't build deleted sets out of PAB orders.

It's flattened me right out. I've been waiting 7 weeks to build some lego, now I don't even want to look at it.

Not sure whether to now work on the pile in the corner, submit the PAB order that's been waiting over 2 months for double points, or whether to try and execute this idea where I use the McLaren instructions (possibly buy a 2nd mclaren) to build a Ferrari (I think the decals would piss me off. If you went to lego and got "replacement" decals for the McLaren + Ferrari 488 I think you'd probably have 50% of the decals you need... but that's still only 50%.)

Or maybe I just cheer myself up with the Concorde or Batcave, knowing they don't really fit my space...

Why not just get something of the shelf that takes your fancy and cheer yourself up a bit? Target has 20% off starting tomorrow for the school holidays.

I'll probably end up going one of 2 ways.

The easiest set I have in the corner at the moment (that I have space for) is Friends Central Perk.

A much tougher set, that I don't really have room for atm, might be the Ferrari 488, just to learn more about those decals.

Build Central Perk. Get your mojo back, even if you have to break it down afterwards :thumbsu:

Of course, the bummer with building Central Perk is that I'll then want to go straight into the Apartments.

It's funny, more than anything the Friends Apartments are probably a sign to not spend money on stuff just cos it's cheap. I used to watch Friends, and at the time I was stoked that I got a close-to deleted product in a beat up box for $170. But I don't really want to display it, and the beat up box means you can't really hock it.

The wings take shape in bags 4 to 6. A few different blocks to break up the monotony and overall the shape is quite impressive. This is the end of bag 4 which makes it clear that this is the retractable main landing gears.

2/7ths of the way through. A minor issue are those exposed studs and small gaps on the edge of the wing and next to the studs - maybe the Concorde had that in real life? Meh, they don't really detract from it but hopefully there is a reason for the variance in otherwise smooth wings.

You might be surprised. New sets without box going on Bricklink for over $200. Not every collector is a box completionist
