Bag 13 has a fair few bits and pieces but focuses on the landing gear. Fits snugly and zero problems with it properly retracting.

PXL_20230916_070930460.jpg

No issues with extension either.

The bag also completes the passenger cabin. It is slightly annoying though that the connection is quite solid. You grasp the area between the studs at the top but it does not come away cleanly and easily because a lot of studs are attached between the top and the rest of the cabin. I suppose it is required for structural integrity but it is a bit of an effort to show off the detail in the cabin.

14 and 15 are solely for the engines. They look impressive for sure but nowhere near as impressive as the real thing. Fun fact: due to the Concorde's cruising speed being higher than the speed of the rotation of the earth, it was possible to watch multiple sunsets on the same flight.

I hope your colleague is OK. On the plus side it means I can add next year's membership money to the Lego fund. I think perhaps the Viking Village might be next? Should go well with the Viking Ship.

Sorry CP but a lot of Eagles supporters are enjoying the melts over straight sets and re-signing Ken last month. But at least you didn't have a wooden spoon season I suppose...

You at least have control of your club. We are run by the AFL, have a board completely disinterested in results and a chair who is deluded into thinking he's the second coming. We are a complete basket case from top to bottom. No draft capital this year means we go backwards again next year.

At least Lego gives you something back for your hard earned. These days I get more excited by what the next Christmas Village set is than by what masterstroke our brains trust is pulling next ...

Taking advantage of the morning light to get the nose assembled. I liked the technique to get the 'droop snoot' and cockpit at the right angles. It is a bit clumsy and not as clean as I'd like but it does the job. Fun fact: the movable nose is not officially called the droop snoot but the funny name stuck - it was required to ensure that pilots could see the ground when taxiing around the airport. It retracted shortly after take-off and was deployed again when preparing to land.

PXL_20230916_235538819.jpg PXL_20230917_000812862.jpg Now it gets attached to the rest. Like I said before, could perhaps be cleaner but the detail is impressive and the droop snoot works well. No objections there and to re-emphasise the lack of stickers makes it even better. Lots of printed bits in the front section alone (visor on the nose, cockpit, 2 x Concorde names, 2 x static ports)

PS the next post may be the last, as it's the tail section and stand (four bags to go!)

She said she is going for Carlton now. She is frustrated.

I had exactly the same reaction from my grandson, and my wife says I should find a new team.

Over on the Port board, the "Sack Hinkley" thread is in its 9th part. Your colleague is welcome to join in :).

Meanwhile previous Port players/coaches like Hardwick, Clarkson, Voss, Kingsley, Montgomery etc have moved on to greater achievements. We could have kept any one of those and won something.

Blues v Lions will be one for the ages I reckon. Good luck for the rest of the campaign :thumbsu:

And here...we...go!

Fun fact: the tail 'bumper' wheel was required because the design of the Concorde risked tail-strikes on the runway on takeoff and landing. This one however must be manually retracted and extended separately from the rest of the gear. The tail cone at the end is the one you use to control them (the main gear, that is).

PXL_20230917_064137610.jpg

Another fun fact: 'Concorde' means agreement in French, similar to 'concord' in English. The French spelling prevailed but the British liked to say the 'e' stood for England, excellence, engineering etc. Probably the finest rare example of French and British cooperation.

This thing is majestic as f***. Minifig for comparison, as a reminder this thing is over a metre long and 40 cms wide.

PXL_20230917_063555333.MP.jpg

Fun fact no 3 (in this post anyway) - it has become one of my favourite builds - yes, the exterior is just about all white but there was not much repetition and some great building techniques to achieve things like the shape of the wings and engines, working landing gear and unusual shape and angles of the front.

PXL_20230917_065011486.MP.jpg

Now to fulfil user requests - the base is extremely solid. Just use a bit of common sense, but it withstood my gentle shoving of the plane from side to side and backwards and forwards - the sheer weight of the build probably helps as gravity keeps it firmly sitting on the post in the stand and there are multiple layers upon layers of solid bricks inside.

PXL_20230917_065057209.MP.jpg

Fully extended - note the 'droop snoot' is not flush or dovetailing neatly with the rest of the plane - not really possible I suspect with current Lego blocks (would need special moulds maybe) but not a big deal in my view. Still, the front is probably the biggest weakness of the plane both structurally and design wise, there's a few gaps left behind by the designers to achieve the desired angles on the fuselage as well. I guess this was where they compromised in favour of accuracy.

PXL_20230917_065207841.jpg

Someone asked me to compare it to a Technic car - this is the Lambo Sian which is enormous in itself, the Concorde definitely requires much more space, especially if you leave it on the stand (which you should anyway for any plane model).

PXL_20230917_065628626.jpg

The final photo with all gears up and the cutaway cabin visible (PS the jeans are not dirty, just the weather hasn't been ideal here lol).

Overall, a really good and enjoyable build. Admittedly as an experienced builder not a lot of new things in the build and it's 'only' 2000 pieces but if you even have a passing interest in aviation this is a must. And it certainly dominates any Lego display with how vast it is. For $300? Decent and a lot worse out there in terms of value for money. Please give us a 747 or A380 next, Lego...

Pros
  • Enjoyable build, not too repetitive and the right level of difficulty
  • Some new techniques (eg landing gear, temporary orange blocks)
  • Anyone with some kind of interest in planes will love this, guaranteed

Cons
  • Some will say this is a pro, but good luck in finding display space for this
  • Noticeable gaps in the construction can be annoying (eg in wings, in the front)
  • Although less noticeable in daylight, you can discern the difference between certain white tiles and blocks

FP's rating: 8/10

Thank you for all the effort you put into sharing this here. Very much appreciated. This one wasn't on my list but I love an interesting build, so I may have to reconsider

If they made a similar scale A380 I'd be into that too, but I suspect there isn't that much of a market for adult Lego aviation enthusiasts, which is why I was surprised when Concorde was announced. It will be pride of place on my shelf for a while...

Yeah, it's only the size that'll stop me getting it I think.

One of the reasons why I bought it is because I already cleared the space months ago.

Yeah I wonder though with an A380 or similar it wouldn't be as interesting a build, particularly if it included an interior? Piece count would be enormous too ;).

$300?

Wow A lot cheaper than I thought

Looks good too

Yeah, when it was first released I initially thought $400+. I would've listed it as a con if it was (I was always going to buy this to hopefully help demonstrate to Lego there is a market for real life aircraft).

Another cheap set that might appeal to people is the Viking Village - only just over $200 for 2000 pieces. That's also on my radar along with Eldorado. Unfortunately sets like Pacman and Titanic are still overpriced imo.

My next will be gringotts
And a few of the potter sets
The smaller castle the smaller train and maybe the quidditch trunk I think I need
Haven't seen Gringotts built, but those who have say it's very impressive. Serious price tag though.

I have the new smaller train and it's not a significant upgrade on the earlier HE sets, so if you have those (and don't want Hogsmeade) it probably doesnt add much.

I have the Hogwarts trunk, it's a great little fun set, I'm guessing the Quidditch one would be similar. I think I got that at a reasonable discount too.

The smaller Hogwarts is an interesting one - more pieces than Himeji castle but the same price, despite the licence. It does look a better build too.

Target has some good prices on some of these, definitely check those out.
