Just been reading that there are rumours Lego has finally acquired the licence for Star Trek, and an Enterprise is on the way in 2025. What a joy that would be if true .

I think I'm done with un-sealed Lego.

Just a week or so after solving the Friends Apartments debacle (although I still have some loose threads to tie up - including receiving the pieces), I managed to pick up an old Speed Champs set at a Salvos. There were plenty of bags in the box, including 2 unopened Lego bags, and it was only 9 bucks - I had to go for it!

It's one of those 2-pack speed champs. One car uses bags 1-2, and has been built, and I don't appear to have all the pieces. Then the other car uses bags 3-5, and I appear to be missing the entirety of one of those bags... but the other 2 are still sealed. I don't have the stickers for that 2nd car either.

Can't be too upset over 9 bucks, but it's not a set that I'll be throwing money after to complete. Not even sure I can be bothered spending the time finding out whether I have pieces to complete one of them.

Yeah I don't think I'd buy used Speed Champions simply because they'd be pretty lame without their stickers, even if you could source the parts. I wouldn't have thought twice at $9 though, even for what you got. A single Minifigure costs $6...

What's top of everyone's list for January 1 purchases?

I think the Tudor Corner looks great, but that'll likely turn up at the majors before too long, and be available at a discount. I love the little Mario Kart sets and the new Botanicals look good. Does seem though that the pricing is creeping up again.

I think my wish list would be headed by Blacktron, Da Vinci and the Pandas. Possibly also the little Technic plane, I do love those smaller Technic builds.

Nothing for me... I'm hoping to get the Mercedes F1 and Endurance built before the next wave of F1 releases in March.

I also need to build the Friends Apartments when the PAB orders get here, and this week I was tidying up and came across Great Wave, which I've been meaning to build for 2 years now. I don't know why I haven't, I think it'll look great in my place.

I'm kind of glad that I don't have anything like the space for these expensive modulars, that's a real slippery slope once you get started I think.

It'll be interesting to see how the Kiosk performs on the secondary market. I'd be surprised if it does as well as Shackleton's Lifeboat, I think with that a lot of people were much like me, they viewed it as a critical part of the story, and if they weren't getting it with the lifeboat they weren't getting it at all. A little kiosk is unlikely to be as crucial to anyones modular "city".

I think you were right in your previous post. It isn't the essential companion set that Shackleton's Lifeboat was, and it's pretty generic. Interestingly though the Lucky Knots GWP on offer at both Lego.com and the Stores sold out in the Stores by 2am, so that was in demand.

I started the new year as I intend to continue, by gifting myself Tudor Corner. Had a bunch of VIP points from the previous offers, so got a reasonable discount and a couple of GWPs, so it made a day 1 purchase worthwhile.

Fun build, lot of small bags which makes it easy to knock off a couple at a time and in between things.

Started building the Endurance last night, there is no 3d instructions on the app which I find strange and annoying

I saw somewhere - I thought it was here, but maybe it was facebook - where someone suggested using a brick separater to apply stickers straighter.

I've just used that method for the first time, and bugger me if it works pretty good! It's fiddly, but I was building Aston Martin F1 Speed Champs, so the stickers are tiny.

Fairly certain this one came out after the McLaren speed champs, and it was at least a year after the Mercedes speed champs - it was probably the weakest of the builds. The side pods feel more flimsy, and the rear wing looks a bit rubbish.

Not great ahead of the full grid of cars being released in 2 months! Not that there's any sign that we'll get the full collection in one box like the US Amazon exclusive, so maybe I only buy the 2-3 that I want most.

That Amazon full set had the same RRP as buying them separately, so there isn't much benefit in buying it, except of course for the aftermarket.

And when you factor in how regularly and cheaply Speed Champions go on sale, it wouldn't make a lot of sense to buy the box at full price. That's probably how I'll ultimately end up with most, if not all of them - I'll buy Red Bull and Ferrari Speed champs on day 1, and wait for others to go on special.

I doubt I'll be buying either technic set on day 1 without any sales/insider bonuses/GWPs, 350 is frightening. And I still haven't built last years technic Merc.

Yep. On the desktop version, once you're in your check out it'll give you the option on the right side of the page to use any insider points, and tells you what the discount equates to.
