All women know that groups of guys make horrible and disgusting jokes about women when they're not around. It's just a fact.

However, if Adam Simpson a bloke who is 30+ years old is putting a condom on a chickens head, then ****ing a raw chicken with it, that's kind of weird. Not what happened or the video, just to be doing that kind of thing at 30+? Very weird.

Good on you Lance for standing up for common sense and showing that not all footy supporters are bigoted morons.

So everyone that disagrees with you and Lance is a bigoted moron? Please provide us all with your "common sense" definition of a bigoted moron. Because to me, a bigoted moron is someone that makes stupid, sweeping generalisations about people, like you just did.

Yup I agree.

It's not even funny, and not because its degrading or whatever its supposed to be. I just think its lame and quite crap really, you think if they had so much spare time to do something like that it would be better.

I think it would've been the younger blokes rather than Simmo and Pratty pokin the chicken, there were 5 others involved, they're just the ones fronting the media as they're senior players.:thumbsu:

Jesus, Jim. If you can't see the problem with blackface, then you're beyond hope.

It's good to know the world has passed people like you by.

Have fun getting old and angry, 'cause things aren't ever going back to the way you'd like them to be.

I honestly can't see what the problem is with painting your face black to portray a person WHO IS BLACK in this day and age. I'd like to think as a society we've actually progressed past the stage where something like that is taboo. I could understand the outrage if he was swigging from a tin of petrol or running around with a boomerang or a spear but why is it not okay to try and emulate someone else's physical appearance just because they are black?

But on topic.... Anyone who can somehow equate the chickengate video with the degradation of women is obviously trying very, very hard to find a reason to be offended. I didn't find it particularly funny but I didn't find it offensive either.

When I was younger a friend and myself in art class, used to make these little clay men. We had a larger block of clay and all the time we would create different situations and objects, which would inevitably squish the hapless clay men.

The teacher thought it was hilarious. In essence we were depicting violence, murder and torture. One of the clay men was always a bit clueless (and unfortunately suffered for it in surprising ways)

Video or it didn't happen.

it's not over-reacting ffs. Are you honestly saying that it doesn't matter if victims of sexual abuse and violence are offended? THEY are the ones affected by this issue, are they not? If you haven't been affected, maybe it's easy to laugh it off.

You're either having a lend of us or trying to score a cyber date with some of the females reading this thread. I've ruled out the possibility that you're actually serious.

Do you react this way about everything that is offensive? Using your logic, everything is offensive to someone somewhere. Let's just shut down the internet, television and radio now because someone somewhere in the world might be offended by what they see.

Comics better drop satire from their routine, too. You never know if a black person, gay person, feminist, fat person, child suffering from down syndrome, red head, asian, caucasian, cross-dresser, victim of bullying, victim of a turkey slap, albino or generally anyone who just wakes up in the morning might be watching it.

Just because a joke is in poor taste doesn't make it satirical.

Robert Downey Jr in blackface in tropic thunder is satirical, because it's poking fun at method actors, and Hollywood casting practices when it comes to black actors (the idea that they'd put a big name white actor in blackface before casting an actual black person).

Sam Newman putting shoe polish on his face isn't poking fun at anything (and, MalceskiFan, don't try and act like it's part of Sam "getting into character" with stage makeup or anything. It's the Footy Show, not Belvoir Street). It's just him trying to get a rise out of people. There is no joke to it beyond the fact he's not "meant" to do it, and that it is going to offend people.

Back to the Chicken...

For the most part, no one, including myself, and I'm guessing Lance and everyone else in this thread on this side of the argument, is trying to claim this is the end of the world.

It's just stupid or dishonest to try and claim there was nothing at all wrong with the video.

Man, watching this knee jerk "this is political correctness gone mad! Bloody lesbian immigrant greenies trying to tell me how to live my life" bullshit is depressing.

Boris the Chicken's post is pretty funny, though.

Hands down one of the worst 'scandals' ever. It was a private video, guys having a bit of fun between themselves, anyone who has time to complain about it needs to get a life. whoever chucked it on youtube is a dumb shit though, should have known the PC police would've been straight onto it. The world must be going well if this is the biggest problem

Indeed, as a film maker, I'm offended by the production values.

The club should be looking into which idiot put this thing on Youtube.
Yes the video was a stupid thing to do but it was only supposed to be seen by other boofhead footy players. The team should give whoever leaked this video a good flogging at training next week.
What happens on the footy trip stays on the footy trip.

That is so f***en true... theft, rape, assault, murder is depicted every night of the week on prime time television for the general public's entertainment. Surely we should be thinking of all the victims of all these crimes and banning shows that show anything but everyone dancing happily around the camp fire? These are footballers, they made a video, noone was hurt, they never said they were going to be the role models for the rest of society. Get the **** over it. In case you have forgotten we live in a free country. Free to do what ever we want within the law. Free speech means you have to deal with people who say stuff you dont agree with, so that you have the right to one day speak your mind. Personally, I think thats a fair deal.

I am deeply offended, the AFL should make an example of North melbourne as a club and make them play with just 16 men this weekend. As a Hawthorn supporter i will be disappointed that the spectacle will be diminished but it is a sacrifice that i am willing to make in the name of public sensibility.

To be honest, the only thing that offended me was the music and not because of the lyrics, it was just sh1thouse.

I play footy at a suburban level and I understand the culture of football clubs. I can absolutely understand the environment in which this video would have been made, but they could have selected any song for Boris to act out. That they chose this says something about their own views as well.
It's the lyrics of Ludacris that are mysoginist and undoubtedly degrading to women. Comments about this not having any relation to women are misguided. If the chicken carcass symbolises a woman (and it is clearly intended to - the lyrics, the wine, the sex, etc...) then the message is this:

Women are to be selected like groceries -and kept like possessions.
Women can be beaten - even killed if they displease you.
Women can be used for sex - even postmortem.

These views are the issue. It's not a North melbourne issue, it's not even an AFL issue. It's about how we view other people.

(it's also back up on youtube)

You are mising the point of the whole issue from the AFL and North Melbourne's point of view.
Everything you have said is totally correct about freedom of choice. The players are free to make their video - or whatever they want.

But - at the same time North Melbourne are desperate for sponsors and members. The sponsors are also free to make their own choice about ongoing support for the club. This sort of distasteful video could have companies question their ongoing involvement with the club - and the game in general.

Many women are already dis-illusioned by the poor attitude and lack of respect shown to them by footy clubs ( players in particular ) - this will only make things worse. As clubs and the AFL are trying so hard to change this - the last thing they needed was a pack of brainless idiots coming up with this piece of garbage.

The game and in particular North Melbourne need all the sponsors and members they can get - that's why they must stamp out this childish offensive behaviour. People are saying "who cares" and that the video may not offend many people - but if it only offends one , the Chairman of the Board of Directors at Mazda, then it could end up putting the future of the club at risk.

That is why clubs and the game have to put controls in place for the behaviour of their players. They need to protect the image of their club and the game to attract members and in particular sponsors.
