Star Wars The Mandalorian

it's no surprise that the mandalorian clearly looks like the best SW thing in this disney era BECAUSE lucas, favreaux and filoni are all heavily involved in the writing and production of it

I think the future of SW would be better suited as a TV series imo it gives it room to explore and expand rather than cramming everything in a 2 hour slot.

Agree. The original idea with the Anthologies, where theoretically they could jump back or forth across the entire SW universe timeline, for a one-off movie, was the most exciting news of the Disney acquisition. They messed that up by going the SOLO route, and other plans like Boba Fett and Obi-Wan. Where it was still stuck in the Skywalker era. So, therefore, TV series can be and do now what the Anthologies initially had the potential to be.

The Mandalorian...whilst still Skywalker era, is probably full of whole new antagonists and protagonists, with a non-Jedi-vs-Sith premise....so that's really interesting.

If they venture into Legends eras like Bane, Thrawn, KOTOR, etc, or just other ideas like the seedy underbelly of Mos Eisely, or Coruscant, then TV would suit. They also have that Rogue One prequel storyline being done on TV too. Which could also be interesting.

I just don't know how they can make trilogy movies anymore (which is more mass consumption -- diehard fans and new casual fans alike), trying to recapture that OT phenomenon.

"Success" can be a slippery thing to measure with.
There's critical success, or, box office success.
And often box office success doesn't automatically mean the film was actually good, or quality material.
Filoni's work on The Clone Wars tho was high quality, at least he can bank on that as a creative talent.

Then there's right place right time success, which I think is really overlooked in the success of the MCU and Feige.

I really liked Rogue One that me felt like star wars

I hope they don't make it too much 'rough guy with heart of gold' ala what they turned Han Solo in to. I still want to see a cold blooded self interested bad guy as the lead.

There has to be some reason to want to like the guy in the show and want to follow him otherwise who cares when he is trouble or any other adventure he is in.
yeah its necessary, otherwise hes a villain. everyone loves a rough guy with a heart of gold. most popular characters in any story are usually those

Well you could still make him the villain but, as with Breaking Bad, there needs to be an in on why you want to follow him.

Same looking forward to it will Bobba Fett be in this?

Fairly certain this is set post ROTJ. Meaning Boba Fett is dead. I’m hoping it’s a completely separate stand alone character.

Surely it’s time to expand the universe a bit and not keep going back to milk the nostalgia and squeeze what they can from it (take Han’s dice for example, it was never really a thing and they tried way too hard to force it into something it’s not).

Looking forward to this; given the writing and directing talent behind it. Hoping it delivers.

Breaking Bad is the opposite of the typical rough exterior gold heart storyline though. Peeling away the layers of goodness to reveal a massive a-hole.
fair enough, thats a show i havent actually watched yet. got all the seasons on harddrive, waiting.

GG I’d suggest next time you’re about to watch a random on YouTube lamenting about Star Wars, fire up your hard drive instead. Breaking Bad is an amazing show.

when you have whole multiple seasons on drive, i just get addicted, have to keep putting the next episode on. cant stop. so i worry and procrastinate when theres a show like breaking bad or game of thrones with 5 seasons of 10+ hour long episodes. end up looking like a dracula with aids.

but i DO want to get into it

Disney won't have the restraint to keep this series all-new characters. Someone from the original trilogy is going to rock up.

From memory the first season or two there's only perhaps 6-8 episodes per season. Gradually grows to about 10 episodes thereafter. Very easy to get into and having the next episode available on tap is an advantage with a show like this, rather than waiting week to week (or year to year as it originally unfolded). Anyway, just try it. It will take your mind temporarily off Star Wars at least :D

For some reason I don't get that sense from this. It genuinely looks a darker tone and set away from the established universe. I've got no doubt though the Rogue One/Cassian Andor show and Obi-Wan's series will be milking the nostalgia/cameos, but not this one. Anyway, just a hunch. Time will tell.

Title character looks like Boba Fett with different paint and it's got Tatooine or a Tatooine clone.

Don't read much into the 'woah dramatic!' music in the trailer, all trailers are like that.
