its never about how fast a player is, it's about how fast the ball moves.
If those guys can win the ball and get it to our outside mids then its fine but on Saturday they didn't they got beaten
Why they can do it in the other matches but not in this GF?
Is it relating to their poor football skill/ability or other factors like soreness, experience, heat?

We're too one dimensional in our taps I feel. Having Priddis to take the ball is great, but we arent utilising the rest of our mids enough. Look at most clearances we take, it's almost 80% to Priddis.
It's time for our other mids to put up their hand to receive the ball, or to get in there and get it.
No more hovering around packs ala Sheed.

Exactly. He ends up just getting tackled resulting in a ball up. His clearances aren't clean and his kicks out are just slapped onto the boot.

There's nothing wrong with tapping it to Priddis. He does his best to get the ball out. But when 80% of the time you are, it's damn predictable.

To be fair to Sheed he played an important transitional role this year in releasing outside runners while not being fully inside himself, I expect him to take many more centre clearances next year and beyond.

Perhaps I'm being harsh on him, but I feel that his best role is to not be that transitional player, and rather to win the ball himself. He's developed the size and strength to be able to win the hard ball, he needs to go in and get it himself. You could see that we got smashed in the clearances against Hawks in the GF. It's times like that he needs to take the game by the scruff of the neck and take it upon himself to win the ball, and not keep hovering around the edges.

That's where Patrick Cripps beats him. Cripps beats him in getting the hard ball and imposing himself on the game. When Sheed is quiet or the team is getting flogged in clearances he doesn't take it upon himself to get in there and win the ball. I think that's his next step.

Bennell is the only elite mid in the market this year and today we categorically ruled him out, so I guess midfield is not an area of concern. But dead keen on securing a soft outsider on the wrong side of 25.

"They have already been linked heavily with Jetta and Redden. Nisbett said the Eagles had their eyes on a number of players but ruled out any play for Bennell. "No, Harley's not in our thinking," Nisbett said on Monday."We're looking at a lot of guys. We're looking to improve the squad. We'll go after guys we think can improve the group."

So ruling out complete incompetence, must be that either Bennell doesn't want to play for us or corporate is more concerned with how it would look. Because in what universe does Bennell not improve our squad?

I think I'd rather stick with what we've got and go into the draft than waste time trading for second rate players. Go big or go home. Not trading puts pressure on Gaff and Shuey to go to a more elite level and Sheed and Duggan to come along behind them. Pridda's numbers don't lie, he's incredibly valuable but is never going to be Chris Judd. Its not in his genetic makeup.

I think that the midfield dynamic was the reason we got pantsed early by the Hawks.

The leadership group of players don't want him around the club.

I think alot of people are taking too much out of the GF loss.. We honestly couldn't of played more poorly if we tried, Still need a bit more class in the middle tho hopefully Duggan comes on the way Sheed did in his 2nd year !

If thats the case happy to back their call. End of the day we finished half a game off top spot and have plenty of improvement to come. Not trading I think is a positive in many ways, backs the list and places responsibility entirely on their shoulders to go another level.

But he hasn't had a full run at it. He has been moved around so much this season he has not had a chance to settle. Shep is a good example of this. He was moved all over the joint by Whoosa and was unable to build his confidence. At the end of 2013 there were some saying he was finished. As soon as Simmo came a long and played him in one spot for 2 seasons, he got time to learn a role and improved dramatically. Same will happen with Yeo, plus he is itching to be a midfielder.

Yes overcoming the loss of two major backs actually unsettled the team in many ways. You could see the GF loss as a continuation of that. For example Yeo not getting enough experience in the MF. Having to play Darling at CHF when Gov is the natural player in that position. Next year may be much better.

Phwoar. So deadly by foot.
There really is no better word to describe him! I said the same thing watching it.....if Hacksaw wasn't his nickname I reckon Phwoar would be!!!:thumbsu:

And yeah ^^ Darling will be much better as the 3rd tall! Got monstered by Lake a few times in that game.

Our midfield improvement hinges on a few players having a big pre-season.

NicNat (2nd full preseason would be nice), Yeo, Duggan, Sheed, Waterman.

We know that Priddis, Shuey, Gaff, Masten will train the house down - the other four are the most likely to improve us.

Fck the grand final, IT'S THAT TIME OF THE YEAR
