Maybe she was playing with the gun or maybe trying to run awayMotive will be a big question for a prosecution. Stein might try to frame it as an accident, which in the circumstances right now I don't think anybody would believe.
“It’s terrible, not only the fact that she was a nine-year-old girl, but also the circumstances of her death are unimaginable,” Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty alleged while addressing the media on Tuesday.
But Mr Doherty declined to speculate what could have possibly motivated someone to carry out the alleged murder.
He said he was mindful that Charlise’s 31-year-old stepdad, Justin Stein, who has been charged with murder and is before the courts, deserved a fair hearing.
Charlise question cops can’t answer
Police have said it’s too early to discuss a possible motive in the alleged killing of nine-year-old Charlise Mutten in NSW last week.www.news.com.au
Maybe she was playing with the gun or maybe trying to run away
My thinking was that if it was an accident there would still be a motive for concealing the body due to potential jail time gun laws if it was unregistered, and it was loaded.Maybe she hid in a barrel of sand and he drove around for hours looking for her…
Yes awfulPolice are insisting it's a clear murder this far so without too much speculation, they can probably tell it wasn't an accident, with or without his behaviour of concealment afterwards.
Horrible.
There's more than one independent witness to Stein, his car and Charlise at the caravan park and on the ferry.
Given there's been no reports of any other vehicles seized for forensic examination and none that we've seen or read about as being connected to the mother, it looks like she doesn't have access to a car. Or if she does, the cops haven't found it.
How did she get to Wildenstein?
The mother's been released from the hospital and interviewed, no charges. Not yet anyway and at this stage given the cops have reiterated that she wasn't there when Charlise died, there probably won't be.
I was kind of hoping large shotgun and accidental absolutely horrific..."Initial post mortem exam results had indicated a small calibre weapon had caused her death."
New video released in Charlise investigation
Police have made new allegations about the death of nine-year-old Charlise Mutten, after her stepfather was charged with her murder.www.news.com.au
She can still be charged even if she wasnt there on the day of CM death, if she helped Stein to try to cover it up. I assume the cops are trying to get to the bottom of what her involvement was.

Charlise Mutten died after allegedly being shot by Justin Stein: police
'January 25, 2022 - 5:44PM'
'Charlise Mutten was allegedly shot dead by her stepdad with a small calibre rifle.
The emergence about how the poor girl was allegedly killed raised more questions on Tuesday, with police also revealing despite spending ten days scouring the remote Mt Wilson property where she and Justin Stein were staying they still do not know exactly where she died.
'Police have not discovered any blood, gunshot residue or weapon inside the luxury Wildenstein wedding venue.'
'Homicide Squad Commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty, said investigators were still trying to piece together what happened in the harrowing final moments of her life.'
'Det Supt Doherty confirmed The Daily Telegraph’s report that Charlise’s mother Kallista was not at the Mt Wilson property last Tuesday.'
Instead, she was staying at a caravan park with friends in Lower Portland, leaving Stein and Charlise alone more than an hour away back at Mt Wilson.
'Police sources said with Ms Mutten having now been formally interviewed, so too were the friends she had spent time with in the caravan.'
Good luck to anyone involved in the supply or access to the accused getting possession of that rifle/firearm, or the bullets in it.It was a long arm then. Justin Stein doesn't own any registered firearms, the police are going to want to know if anybody else in the family does, where it came from and how he got hold of it.
She's apparently cooperating now so it's a start although why she would have made herself an accessory after her daughter was killed is beyond me.
Maybe the above media report is missing the word 'park' on the end of it?so too were the friends she had spent time with in the caravan.'

'Charlise Mutten’s mother reportedly pregnant with murder accused’s child
January 25, 2022 - 1:00AM
The man charged with murdering nine-year-old Charlise Mutten has children of his own, fathering the first when he was a 16-year-old schoolboy, it can be revealed.
Charlise’s mother, Kallista Mutten, had left her daughter in the care of her fiancee Justin Laurens Stein, 31, when police allege he killed Charlise and stuffed her body in a barrel earlier this month.
Mother-of-two Ms Mutten is reportedly now pregnant with Stein’s child.
Stein, whose mother Annemie Stein told The Daily Telegraph last week had had a “tortured life”, fathered a daughter at the age of 16 while at the elite private Sydney school and a son when he was 19, both to different mothers, according to documents.
Unemployed, he had been paying child support only for the son. The other details are not known.'
Could a potential motive for the accused murdering Charlise, possibly be to punish Kallista and/or Kallista's mother, if he had an argument with Kallista and/or Kallista's mother, and he felt that he might lose access to Kallista's as yet unborn child, and or have to pay child support for a child with Kallista to either Kallista, or Kallista's mother?
Whether it is actually the accused's child Kallista Mutten is pregnant with, has not yet been confirmed by the media, with any reported evidence of a DNA test to prove this. Neither has how many month's pregnant she is, as far as I'm aware.
Assume the police have done the ballistics on the neighbours weapon(s)?
"A close neighbour of the Steins, John Haitzler, has a firearms licence which allows him to shoot feral animals, such as rabbits and foxes. He says he also shoots into the air to frighten away birds that eat his cherry, peach and plum trees."
Not suggesting neighbour was involved but there is a long running dispute between him and the Steins, and Charlise was killed with a rifle possibly similar to one the neighbour owns or owned. Unless the police have already identified the weapon involved they definitely should make sure. The neighbours not a suspect. I imagine a few people in that area have guns. Unless you are suggesting JS stole their gun, killed CM and then put it back?
Maybe Stein and Haitzler were having a shoot-out and Charlise... NahAssume the police have done the ballistics on the neighbours weapon(s)?

They are going to have to live with their involvement in this for the rest of their lives, regardless of the legality or degree of their involvement.
The report actually said "the child was seen", IIRC, not who saw her. How and when did Kallista get back to Wildenstein? She was obviously back on or by Friday, to have made the call.Maybe no one supplied it? Maybe the firearm had been at the wildenstein or other family properties for years, even forgotten about? Bottom line is, as many state, guns don't kill, people do. As to location, could have been anywhere. If investigators are claiming no evidence of a shooting at either the wildenstein property/caravan site/seized vehicle/boat, it points to bush-track, by a river, under a tree, etc. And if it were an accident, why hasn't the accused said so, even this late in the case?
Several days ago, media was reporting the child had been seen on the wildenstein verandah, approx. 4.30pm, Thursday (prior to Friday 8.30am call to police claiming a child was missing). Police, via media, have been stating the child was killed Tues/Wed prior to the reported Thursday verandah sighting. Has the mother retracted her claim about witnessing the child on the verandah on Thurs. afternoon? Or is the public expected to juggle claims the child was killed Tues/Wed and was seen alive on the verandah on the following Thursday? Anyone know if police have cleared up the earlier reported mystery about what the child was wearing when remains were retrieved and seen on the verandah on Thursday, because this was quite the issue when searchers, many of them senior-age, were thrashing through rain and mud
