Exactly this. It's unfortunate that Stein's child abuse videos were not able to be used as evidence, because it seems pretty clear what his intentions were, why he drugged her and why he killed her afterwards.

Actually, it was in the pelvis area according to the Guardian quote from the Forensic Pathologist in the trial a few weeks ago.

Described in the various media reports as "back", or "lower back".

Charlise was shot from behind in the pelvis area and again in the face under the right cheek bone, from “right to left, front to back, and upwards”, according to part of an autopsy report read to the jury.

Hemorrhaging suggested she was still alive when she suffered the gunshot to her back, the court was told.'

What appears to be conflicting specifics on the location of the Pelvis area shots (left lower buttock or above the right hip) as reported by the media about what Forensic pathologist Dr Marna Du Plessis's evidence to the jury in Court.

Interestingly, there is no reported bullet hole damage to the boys track pants, unlike the skirt which had a penetrating damage to the back of it.

If the above the right hip is more accurate than the left lower buttock for where the bullet entered, the bullet might have entered just above where the top of the track pants which might have also been sitting low on the hips.

Alternatively, the conflict in the reporting of what the Pathologist said might possibly be due to the bullet entering above the right hip and exiting or damaging the left lower buttock. I would assume that the jury might have been provided with more details on all of this, and we are just left with court reporters interpretations on what they could see and hear in court.

There was also an oval-shaped entry wound to the lower left back above the right hip which was 5mm high and 8mm wide and had perforated the pelvic bone.'

I'm not sure about this. While previous crimes/convictions are usually not allowed in evidence, I would have thought the 21 Child Sexual Abuse videos found on Steins phone after his arrest were directly related to the case - as to a possible motive.

Certainly the Break & Enter was brought up, as it was when Kallista & Stein had stolen the 22 Calibre rifle that was later used as the murder weapon.

It appears as if Stein drugged the girl with the intention of doing naughty things to her. The pathologist didn't mention signs of sexual assault, though the poor girl's body was in an advanced state of decomposition, after five days in a barrel in the middle of summer.

The rest of the pathology evidence is pretty telling in this case.

What I suspect (or hope) is that she fought him off at the beginning, and ran. Given that she was shot from some distance away, in the back, it appears as if she was running away.


The first shot entered her pelvic bone. This injury would have left her on the ground disabled and writhing in horrendous pain.

The second shot was to the face. The doctor described gun powder tattooing marks around the gunshot wound, which entered just below the girl’s right cheekbone and subsequently her skull and brain, killing her instantly. The end of the muzzle was approximately a rulers length from her face.
I imagine he looked her in the eyes as he shot her; a rulers length is about the distance that this rifle's muzzle would comfortably rest if being held by an adult male, pointed almost directly down at a person at ground level.

That should give you an accurate idea about this person's character.
IMO no sentence is long enough for a crime of this calibre.
