Jennifer Saunders says that Absolutely Fabulous would come with a trigger warning these days, and that many of the lines would need to be removed.

Warning : the following article contains references to drug and alcohol abuse, body shaming and abortion - which some people may find distressing.

On Britbox if they show an older program with some iffy references they put a disclaimer at the start saying it was made in accordance with values of the time.

I wonder if they'll do that with programs currently airing, in a few decades.

Attitudes shift over time, more news at 11.

Film and TV is about 100 years old, outdated views being able to be shown and repeated is relatively new, hence how we address it is in flux. But the idea that ‘you can’t say funny things anymore’ is lazy analysis. I just watched Anthony Jesselnik’s comedy special on Netflix where he joked about rape, abortion and priests molesting children. It didn’t come with a trigger warning, just a rating. If you’re good, you can say anything. What you can’t do anymore without criticism is lazy, broad comedy that targets particular groups.

It's unnecessary. At any particular time there's a diversity of views and values. Audiences can judge for themselves where they stand on the content they choose to watch.

It's a recent thing that TV and movie productions have to conform to DEI standards to qualify for government funding and qualification for awards.

That era has long passed. Can't get away with it (lots of things) in this puritan era. We watched an episode of Porridge the other night (not on Netflix) and we kept saying, "you couldn't say that nowadays".
There's a 'Carry On' film where Sid actually motorboats Babs boobs as he is helping her down from a high vehicle. You definitely wouldn't see that in a modern film.

Of course you could. If you can arrange to make it actually funny and not just old hat and infantile. There’s been a couple of bawdy comedies lately like No Hard Feelings, Joy Ride, Ricky Stanicky.

FFS, George Carlin got hounded by authorities because he said **** on TV. Meanwhile, Jimmy Carr calls people campaigners all the time and Anthony Jesselnik jokes about child rape. But people reckon ‘woke means you can’t say anything anymore’ because you can’t be racist or sexist without skill anymore without being called out for it.

Carry On

Wasn't a Carry On Film. Lacked sexual innuendo.
First half of this was decent, then it just got a bit ridiculous. In particular the scene in the car with the LAPD detective.

Still entertaining though. Certainly inspired by Die Hard, but won't have the same legacy.

Grey Lady

Thought it was released this year so was going to make it the worst movie of 2025.

Up there with the worst movie I’ve ever seen. Unfortunately had to sit through this entire movie. Shit script, shit acting, shit editing, shit everything.

People must be desperate for a movie to watch on Netflix if this is number 1 on their list of movies…

Was thinking how much of a rip off having Netflix is. Hardly any new releases and too many poor quality productions. No way near worth the money you pay per month.

It’s trading off its own golden era whereby every new release was a hit.

Watched 5 minutes of Missing You before switching off.

Utter garbage. As is all Harlan Coben stuff, imo.
I like his Myron Bolitar series but for some reason the stand alones I find ehh

Sat through the 5 episodes late yesterday afternoon and it’s a switcheroo plot twist every 10 minutes. First time I’ve sat through one of these and the last 2 minutes…well good grief

Nesbitt and Henry were great fwiw even though they were tiny and small roles

I just find all the Coben series have really bad acting, so far fetched & all very unlikeable characters 🥴

For some reason, I've seen most of them... And I think that clearly the best one is the series that is full on Spanish; The Innocent.

The Harlen Coben stuff is cheap filler material when you have nothing to watch. The acting isn't great and the story lines are a bit far fetched but there is enough to keep you watching IMO.

I think I've managed to drag myself through maybe 2 series through to the end, only because I got that far through them, I figure I may as well finish it..only to discover the endings are even worse than the series 🤣

I've now officially sworn myself off watching any of them.

The Jerry Springer Doco was enjoyable. It dispelled the rumors that their guests were mostly actors, but it shows how the producers manipulated/coached their guests to get the kind of "performance" out of them they required to make the show as trashy as possible. The tactics used by the producers were pretty despicable. Then, to make it worse, after the show, they sent these people home after making them humiliate themselves on national TV without ever thinking about their welfare post-show.

I admit I always enjoyed the show in the past when it was on TV here in Australia, but the people running this show behind the scenes were terrible people. The doco tries to paint Jerry Springer as a saint who didn't really know what was going on with the selection of guests and how the producers operated. But I call bullshit on that. He had to know. But he was a star and getting big dollars and had a top-rating show, so he turned a blind eye to it all, IMO, to keep his lifestyle. He sold out.

That head producer of the Jerry Springer Show was deplorable. What a disgusting human being. And how could anyone believe anything that he said in the doco given all his lies in the past.

The doco slammed the show and I get why but it didn’t call out the viewing audience at all. At the end of the day, if bringing people in to fight it out and laugh at their weirdness saw the ratings plummet further they wouldn’t have done it. Instead the ratings skyrocketed. An ugly reflection of society at the time and let’s be honest we all watched a bit of it at some stage.

The only real criticism of Jerry was for having a threesome with a couple of hot guests - what’s the issue with that! He wasn’t married or a religious figure, good luck to him! They make out like he’s a counselor.

He knew he sold his soul tho for the money tho. Absolutely he did.

So yeah I was disgusted by the producers but I also think, no one forced these people to come on. **** the guy kissing his horse wife was hilarious 🤣

It’s worth an look and isn’t very long.
