Just wondering if anyone out there actually still enjoys it. I used to love The Simpsons, in fact I watched an old episode at 6:00 a few weeks ago for the first time in a while and I was seriously laughing out loud, something I almost never do while watching TV alone.

For me, the new episodes are nothing short of atrocious, cringeworthy at best and damaging the show's once great reputation with every episode they air.

The thing that tipped me over the edge was Ten's ad for it a week or so ago, when they said "The Simpsons, 20 years on and still as funny as ever." and showed Lisa telling Homer the bees were dying, and the punchline was "Oh no, the bees are dying? Now who will sting me and walk all over my sandwiches."

The problem is they've dumbed it down so much, it used to be such a smart show but obviously somewhere along the way they decided to make it solely about pop culture references and stupid, obvious jokes.

Dunno if there's a more relevant thread but.. this Simpsons season is.. actually.. kinda good?

It definitely leans pretty heavily on nostalgia and the memes people have made about it, but if anyone knows the CGHM group on FB, or Rock Bottom or any of those others, the last few eps could be made out of memes from those pages.

The most recent, the Treehouse of Horror ep, has the Death Note anime, but then also has a Westworld pastiche which uses all the most well known moments from the show as theme park attractions. I references the CGHM etc. groups as there's even a line about 'Australian superfans' which I couldn't help but feel was a nod to them.

It's probably self-aware to a point of over-indulgence to an extent, but quite like the new take of poking fun at itself. Will keep watching.

Recently did a rewatch from the start on Disney+. Had to tap out at the end of S15 as it was starting to get bad.

Interestingly, seems I must have watched religiously up to end of season 10 as a kid as I remembered everything up to that point. S11-S15 I only recalled maybe half of the episodes.

New Treehouse of Horror does look good, but not sure I can get past how bad Marge's voice sounds now.

Yeah they've got to do something about that, her voice is so bad now.

There's a couple of decent eps this season though, mostly playing on nostalgia as I mentioned, but even the It spoof goes ok.

First 12 seasons during the classic era were really good. There's a guy on Youtube that explains the demise mostly coming down to people leaving the show. I think there's a lot more competition for tv now with streaming which is hitting hard on long term shows.

I've done the rewatch from the start recently and started feeling the demise from season 13. In the first 8 seasons the voices were more 'raw' now they seem incredibly contrived. The jokes used to be chained up, and incredibly clever. Now the jokes are short and sharp.

I lost interest from 13-19 but found 20-25 had some really neat episodes. I haven't really watched past 28 so I couldn't tell you anymore.

Season 20 was really good for a post 'classic' simpsons

Yep season 13 is where it went downhill for me. I think the impact South Park and Family Guy had on the public changed how they wrote their jokes too.

Might have to have a squizz. Used to get right into the memes. I actually used to run the Rock Bottom page and post in CGHM a heck of a lot. Even made it onto the 'Know your meme' website for starting the Bart hitting Homer with the chair memes lol

But yeah don't reckon I ever watched anything after maybe season 12

It's dropped off the last few eps, but the first couple of eps weren't bad.

I barely even look at tv since the late 90s but watched a handful of recent episodes and there was a few “fart” jokes. I mean really, that’s what it’s become? 🙄

This is not the Simpsons I remember. Lame..
