I’m not a fan of Darcy Moore as captain giving the sulking he displayed when moved to the forwardline

I’m not sure Moore or Grundy wants it, whereas I’m confident that Adam’s does. Just my reading of the situation. Both Moore and Grundy seem a bit - distanced? - from the leadership. Darcy reputedly not that interested in footy, outside of the club. Doesn’t scream captain material to me.

Adam’s I love but he may only be in the role for a couple of years, and could be overtaken as a player sooner rather than later.

A future long term captain hopefully lurking in the ranks, when we need an Adam’s replacement. Might as well look to the future.:p

No idea who that might be.

People reckon Bianco is captaincy material but you would think he has to consolidate a spot first.

Would not mind Brodie as leader, it would help justify his pay packet and might galvanise his interest a bit. Moore skippered a lot of junior teams to flags but may have gone off footy too much since then. He also said when he first came to the club that captaincy is something he would like in the future but I get the vibes from people that he is not really that into footy. Sidebottom is said to be liked by the fellas but that incident a few years back may go against him.

Bet Tay will get it but it will not be a universally popular decision among the fans.

If it were to go to a hard nut, who the team should follow into battle, I'd probably go Maynard, given that he's got a couple of years on Adams, and long-term, I suspect he's more likely to stay on the field (durability and skills wise). Nathan Jones was a pretty good leader at Melbourne.
Although, I think Adams is the natural successor, for reasons already provided by others, I can see Grundy growing into the dominant ruck/leader that he has shown the capabilities to be.
For me, Sidebottom's 2020 tarnished his leadership entitlements - not to mention his skills in 2021 - but I suspect the playing group wouldn't see those things as mattering anyway.
RE: Moore, I can see him growing into a Phil Davis style leader, so maybe that'd work.
My money is on Maynard

The Pies have chosen a few tough defensive players down the years so this is a good call. He's not in the leadership group RN IIRC, but surely he's a lock for VC at least.

I think Sidebottom is underrated as a leader.

I like your idea.
Me too. After a decade of stifling perfectionism under Bucks and Pendles, bring on a bloke with verve and energy who makes mistakes, but brushes himself off and goes again and again and again. Give them infectious positivity after a decade of tutt tutting about errors.

Darcy Moore please.

Taylor Adams would be a satisfactory captain, but my hope is that the teams evolves to a point where he’s not best 22 sooner rather than later.

Taylor Adams. Maynard I would like also if he was a good fit amongst other players.

Sidebottom? Yuck. The bloke is shot and almost on his way out. Even if he wasn't, something about him in that role just doesn't look right and I don't know why. I prefer many others before him.

Nick Daicos. If we're going to bury him under the weight of expectation let's go all the way.

But seriously, from the outside Darcy Moore would be my pick. But a lot would depend on how well regarded he is amongst the playing group.

LOL on Daics, I reckon it's important the group universally embrace whoever is picked. From the outside Maynard, Sidey and Adams appear more loved than Moore who comes across as aloof, a bit like his old man was reputed to be.

Geez some harsh words on Grundy "when he cares" "when he acts like he gives a shit".

Bloke loves the footy club and will always have a crack. He had a drop in form which can happen to anyone but he is still one of the best ruckman in the league and I can't wait to see him get back to his best again next year.

Adams.

you want your captain to 1) display leadership on the field and be able to lift the team 2) and behaviours you want the team to model off the field and 3) be on the field more than not.

Sidebottom under no circumstances. He should no longer be in the leadership group at all after the full tale of his exploits in last season's undiegate.

Grundy's overt me me me approach to contract negotiations and public toying with leaving back to SA and or declaring football isnt everything doesnt scream behaviours you want to model.

Moore is probably not yet displaying the durability you need.

Adams fits the bill.

I reckon this is a good summing up except that Tay is injury prone as well. Send Tay and Moore to the knackery. :)
