I thought the generally accepted view now was that Stalin was going to attack Hitler in 1942 or perhaps 1943. Either way, they were never staying allied for long

Hypothetically speaking, imagine if we threatened to do just that, I could see a couple of immediate problems.

1. The China relationship would almost be irrepairably damaged. We would lose our biggest trading partner, copping a huge hit financially & would also paint a gigantic target on our back militarily.

2.. The US would almost certainly push to have their own nukes stationed on the top end which would be a blow to our already fragile state of self determination.

Personally I can't see it happening any time soon.
