Anonymous was a anti corporate/anti gaovernment/anti fascist oriented hacker collective that formed out of the Chan noticeboards nearly 20 years ago. When companies started going after wikileaks funding anonymous started attacking them anon responded.

HBGary and Thiel's company Palantir and one other company planned to attack wikileaks and try to break it and HBGary's founder also claimed that he had the security software capable of busting anonymous and putting everyone involved into the cops., So anon hacked his security company or one of the HBGary Federal and completely broke it which scared Palantir off attacking wikileaks.

iirc it was back in 2011.

Alot of interesting stuff happened before social media really cranked up.

Yeah but not cos they were specifically communists, just cos they were political enemies or whatever, and the gulags weren't actual death camps, just really horrible slave camps. When the USSR executed people via its legal system they did so immediately under the same sort of legal justifications any country using the death penalty will follow, they didn't send them to concentration camps where they had industrial killing systems set up. Also, the Nazis did the same to other Nazis. (Nazism and communism are not remotely similar in ideology. They are complete opposites. All dictatorships are in practice and how they use power tho.)
