He spurned us in 2009 and 2019 when we were on our knees. No thank you now.

We have enough seasoned experience in Viney and Clarkson.

Maybe another well traveled career coach a la Fagan, Richardson, Ratten to round us out as the team improves in a year or so.

But would rather be looking for or developing the heir apparent like Barlow than bringing in a guy who had no interest in our program when we sought him.

The romanticism around us getting former players back in to the coaching ranks is lost on me.

Do people forget that Horse used us as leverage?

At least Simmo said thanks but no thanks within the singular phone call.

Tom 'integrity' Morris (recently filmed literally chasing Rick Olarenshaw for an interview while the bloke was walking his dog) bringing us the fresh gossip.

No way this only became known now. Either journos were sitting on it for reasons or it's 99% bullshit.

Sounds like he did us a solid by dropping LP in our lap.

I actually appreciate the romanticism but it expires at the first valid rejection.

After that they have no more appeal than any equivalent coach.

Daniel Giansiracusa or Robert Harvey hold as much sentimental appeal for me as football staffers as Horse or Simpson do now.

It's definitely lost on the former players themselves - especially when like Simmo and Horse they've been immersed somewhere else. Do you reckon that in the midst of his 3-peat Clarko was dreaming of the day he could be coaching North? Or was it just the best job available to him at the time?

It rankles me to see favourite players plotting our demise - that Malcolm Blight, my boyhood hero, beat us in a Grand Final made a disappointing day even more so. I get the romanticism, and it would be nice to see Horse come back, but he's made his home in Sydney and is still 100% on the Swans. Stuff him.

It's bizarre. He looked broken after the Grand Final. But to do all the exit meetings, take some time off maybe, go through trade week and draft nights and then on day one of pre-season chuck it all in. Good thing his replacement was in-waiting all along otherwise he's thrown them for a loop. Very out of character.

could have been worse could have waited the week before round 1 and really messed their season up

Not really, he had advised the club that 2024 or 2025 was the likely time of him stepping down.

May have even been some internal pressure for Cox to take over, especially if Longmire was having issues with player relationships.
