No wonder AFL journos are poorly regarded.

AFL history is littered with long term Coach/player relationships failing.

This is such a non story and given that LP had already left the Club anyway - it's damn hard to see the relevance.

And even if it was a fair dinkum bust up between coach and player, Parker announced he was leaving Sydney early in October so it would have been well before then. You mean Morris sat on the story for a minimum of two months and only brought it to light today?

Of course Parker was unhappy with Longmire. He was a club stalwart who'd been put on the backburner for over half the season.

Sounds like a massive beat-up and a somewhat pathetic attempt to find a juicy angle to the story.

I actually appreciate the romanticism but it expires at the first valid rejection.

After that they have no more appeal than any equivalent coach.

Daniel Giansiracusa or Robert Harvey hold as much sentimental appeal for me as football staffers as Horse or Simpson do now.
you don't think we asked the question of Clarko several times over the years before he eventually said yes?

Weagles didn't handle today particularly well. Pyke offering Simmo a farewell game mid presser was amateur hour.

Simmo can leave with his head held high, achieved plenty. A flag, A GF lost to an all time great team and 6 consecutive finals series.
But it was time for him to move on and protect his legacy (and chances of securing another senior gig down the track). Because their list still needs major surgery and doesn't have a whole lot of talent that's 25 or younger.

If Cox is their main target, I wonder if the Swans act quickly and try to lock in a succession plan. Like they did with Roos when we approached Horse post Laidley

I agree with that and the Swans are probably the least likely club, to do something in a blind panic.

But it may come down to how long Horse plans to coach for. If he views himself potentially wanting to retire within the next 5 years. They'd ask the question of whether he'd be willing to hang around.
Would be far more attractive taking over a list including prime Warner and Gulden, than the current Weagles s*** show.
Called it 😉

Horse will Coach us past the Clarko era
Don't know about that. With what we are assembling even though I love our past players that have gone on to be very good coaches, we "don't" and "wont" need them. Past the "Clarko era", our next coach....., who do we think will be our next coach? With comments like these it might be logical to assume people think Clarko wont be here or that he will fail or even that we might move him on for ????.

To me logic + the last 6 months suggests quite the opposite and in fact I think Alastair will be here for quite a while. Why do I say that? Well for one, people early last year {quite a lot actually} didn't really care about winning or losing, they just wanted "SOME HOPE", some belief that we are on the right path and to see glimpses of it and to be more competitive. Now that last word is very important because after the bye and we regrouped {apart from the last 2 games} we went from absolutely getting flogged and only playing one good quarter to three bloody good quarters, being competitive up to our eyeballs and {because of a few issues that will be fixed up in no uncertain way} to nearly winning games.

To me that is absolutely extraordinary and such a turnaround that not only do I have no doubt that we are going to be a team that if I were to tell you how good, a large percentage of people would not only disagree but would have the thoughts like; "I just can't see it", "we might be okay in a few years but even then that might be wishful thinking" or outline their views on why we wont get to that level or even why we can't. As I have outlined in previous posts sometimes things just take time but you also need talent, some luck {when we're at that stage, we'll create our own luck, that's what good teams do} and you have to give the new coaches that we brought in, time with the players as well as their learning and getting up to speed at AFL level + fitness.

You will always get a couple of people that have gotten to that stage where nearly everything is negative from them and that one could argue that they just don't want the club to succeed but in actual fact nothing could be further from the truth, for whatever reason {five years of what we have gone through; losses, throw in our first ever number one draft pick leaving after only 12 months, coaches coming and going, our first and probably our last ever full rebuild and just for dessert we'll throw in the racism saga with Hawthorn to top our evening off} would make and probably has turned loyal supporters into this feeling that our fall hasn't finished yet and that we are spiralling into an endless pit.}

Those supporters want us to win just as much as the most loyal supporter, probably more, they have lost hope and when you lose hope, darkness can be unpleasant and a forbidding place. We are going to start winning and next year your going to see it first hand, when Alastair went to the US to get more knowledge on winning, tactics and successful teams strategy it wasn't to stay here for three or four years, when the transformation of our team is complete he wont be going anywhere, oh and those supporters that SEEM negative and sarcastic at times, all that will disappear and we will be ALL TOGETHER talking on here how good we are and what a bright future we have in front of us but never forgetting the bad times because in the end its the bad times that will make us stronger. :padlock:

Good luck to Horse - good career but one flag a poor return from 5 grannies tbh. Won't go down as a great coach in my judgement.
It's a weird one hey. They've been in a very good seat for a couple of those but fallen short. On the other hand he managed to entirely rebuild them with only a few years in the bottom half of the ladder and always competitive throughout.

Maybe. Will be a prime candidate but I just think he under achieved.
Adam Simpson + John Longmire together in operation Tasmania, they will need experienced coaches and what better candidates with both being very refreshed and ready to take on this huge challenge, with Brendon Gale in charge this seems a very plausible idea.

Anyone else suspect TTS is chat gpt?
Early on maybe, but would it know so much about past issues, recent comments from coaches, players etc?
Also pretty quick with the one-liners. But I don't know much about ChatGPT so I suspect TTS is Redfoo.
