Smith averages more disposals, goals & tackles. So Devon Smith..... 100 games more than Mountford and stats that suggest he aint much better.
Can you not play both in the same team?

If we hadn't today's Herald Sun will ensure we do.Has North gotten over stringer already?

BULLET DODGED!
Worth a look?
Aish?
It’s been covered before, but it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing NBA style trading of “bad contracts” as a means of developing lists.
Aish and Mayne are horrible contracts for Collingwood.
North have cap space, so could offer a token pick like;
NM give Collingwood Pick 44 (2017)
Collingwood give NM Future 2nd Rounder (2018) & Aish & Mayne (inc. full salaries)
- effectively a no risk punt that Aish may come good a be a serviceable acquisition.
- the Mayne deal is a stinker and whilst we DO NOT WANT HIM we would have an extra 2nd Rounder in a hot draft. If that pick is used to get a good player, when Mayne’s contract expires the salary can be used to recontract said player.
Another example:
North give Sydney Pick 22
Sydney give NM Future 1st Rounder (2018) + Tippett (plus his full contract)
These are merely examples to highlight the concept, I’m not suggesting I want Mayne, Tippett or Aish...
However, these types of deals can expedite a list restructure by years!!!!

Got any NBA examples for comparison? Sounds like a bad idea at face value for me.It’s been covered before, but it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing NBA style trading of “bad contracts” as a means of developing lists.

Here's one from so deep in the left field you can barely see it: Jimmy Bartel? He's expressed a desire to do a Hodge, we could give him a year playing alongside/mentoring our young mids and then transition into coaching ala Mitchell. I think he has all the tools to become a great coach and would fit in well with our club's values and culture. You can never value leadership enough in a rebuild.

Wouldn't want to give the pies a leg up at our expense either way

you do realise Mayne still has 3 years to run on his contract? It’s not really so much about “helping the Pies” it about giving them an out with something enticing with trades Pick wise at least stacked in NM’s favour.
Historically in AFL we have had 3 sale-able assets:
1. Playing stock
2. Draft picks
3. Success
We have the opportunity to value add elsewhere. A product few other team currently have, that being; immediate cap space. So why not, given we’re in the doldrums sell it as a “sale-able” asset?
For the trade to be maximized in NM favor they still need to address a “need”, ie NM need outside run and midfielder hence the punt on Aish, Mayne’s a dud but the appeal is the Pick we get from Collingwood for taking him.
The Tippett scenario is probably not a great example for NM as Daw is basically the same proposition i.e Ruck/Fwd but would allow a trade of a Goldy or Preuss for more & higher picks in a top draft...
