It's sucks that Nathan Wilson wants to head back home. A fast half back who can break lines is probably second best option if we can't get that A grade Midfielder

Would the pies give up Aish for a low pick if we take his salary? Would allow them to get Shache. I'd do it, but only for our 3rd or later.

Here's one from so deep in the left field you can barely see it: Jimmy Bartel? He's expressed a desire to do a Hodge, we could give him a year playing alongside/mentoring our young mids and then transition into coaching ala Mitchell. I think he has all the tools to become a great coach and would fit in well with our club's values and culture. You can never value leadership enough in a rebuild.

It’s been covered before, but it’s only a matter of time before we start seeing NBA style trading of “bad contracts” as a means of developing lists.

Aish and Mayne are horrible contracts for Collingwood.
North have cap space, so could offer a token pick like;

NM give Collingwood Pick 44 (2017)

Collingwood give NM Future 2nd Rounder (2018) & Aish & Mayne (inc. full salaries)
- effectively a no risk punt that Aish may come good a be a serviceable acquisition.
- the Mayne deal is a stinker and whilst we DO NOT WANT HIM we would have an extra 2nd Rounder in a hot draft. If that pick is used to get a good player, when Mayne’s contract expires the salary can be used to recontract said player.

Another example:
North give Sydney Pick 22
Sydney give NM Future 1st Rounder (2018) + Tippett (plus his full contract)

These are merely examples to highlight the concept, I’m not suggesting I want Mayne, Tippett or Aish...
However, these types of deals can expedite a list restructure by years!!!!

I would just go all the way and rename the club, Collingwood Reserves.

Got any NBA examples for comparison? Sounds like a bad idea at face value for me.
Wouldn't want to give the pies a leg up at our expense either way

I reckon Bartel was done. Coaching yes, playing no.

It’s not really so much about “helping the Pies” it about giving them an out with something enticing with trades Pick wise at least stacked in NM’s favour.

Historically in AFL we have had 3 sale-able assets:
1. Playing stock
2. Draft picks
3. Success

We have the opportunity to value add elsewhere. A product few other team currently have, that being; immediate cap space. So why not, given we’re in the doldrums sell it as a “sale-able” asset?

For the trade to be maximized in NM favor they still need to address a “need”, ie NM need outside run and midfielder hence the punt on Aish, Mayne’s a dud but the appeal is the Pick we get from Collingwood for taking him.

The Tippett scenario is probably not a great example for NM as Daw is basically the same proposition i.e Ruck/Fwd but would allow a trade of a Goldy or Preuss for more & higher picks in a top draft...

you do realise Mayne still has 3 years to run on his contract?

Yep. I realize that.
Next year doesn’t matter as its seemingly a right off anyway and we have so much cap space.
If we get the future (2018) 2nd Rounder as I proposed. Mayne’s deal would expire when the likes of T.Thomas, BBB, B.Scott are up for recontract...

NORTH Melbourne is looking to acquire Geelong midfielder/forward Darcy Lang, who is out of contract and considering a move.

Lang met with North officials at Arden St on Tuesday and also is believed to have interest from other clubs.

Carlton is a possible suitor, the Blues having shown interest in Lang last year when they traded Zach Tuohy to Geelong.

Lang is not a high priority for the Blues, who would consider him for a late draft pick or if he is not offered a contract by the Cats and is available cheaply.

Lang was a potential candidate for a trade to Gold Coast as part of a Gary Ablett deal but is thought to prefer to stay in Victoria.

The 21-year-old has played 44 matches for the Cats since debuting in 2014.

Lang was selected with Pick 16 in the 2013 draft.
