AFL off-season injury update: Roos' list in good health

Luke Macquire - North Media

The 2022 season has concluded for North Melbourne and the Kangaroos will head into the off-season with the playing group in relatively good health, with just five names on AIA Vitality injury list.

Jack Ziebell is one of those players after having shoulder surgery following the Round 22 match against Adelaide.

Head of Performance Kevin White said the skipper will remain in non-contact training until the pre-season schedule ramps up.

“Jack is still in recovery phase at the moment and will look to commence rehab strength over the early off-season period,” White said.

“Over the time-course of the off-season, Jack will be back into running conditioning and ball work but most likely non-contact in the early weeks of the pre-season until that AC joint is sufficiently recovered and has full function/strength.”

The prognosis for Tristan Xerri and Miller Bergman - also shoulder injuries - is very good as they both build through their respective strength and running programs.
The duo will be allowed to take part in full contact drills once pre-season rolls around.

Jared Polec, who suffered an ankle injury early in the year that saw him ultimately sidelined for the rest of the year, is currently doing low level movement and strength work.

“The aim will be for him to be running in the next 3-4 weeks and assessing how he absorbs that stimulus,” White said.
“We would hope that come the start of pre-season he will join in with the main group.”

And building back through low-moderate levels of gym and running at this stage is Will Phillips, who managed just three VFL games this season due to bouts with glandular fever and COVID-19.

“He will be one that we will assess and monitor closely with regards to program progression over the off-season,” White said.
“We will be able to assess his group training status when pre-season commences pending his absorption of this training phase.”

The Kangaroos’ first-to-fourth-year players will return to pre-season training on November 21, with the fifth-year-plus players back on December 5.

bold of kevin to assume we wont payout polec

Hmm reading that, we possibly won’t see the best of will until 2024.
I don't think it's that dramatic I think they're just being conservative. From memory when he ramped up his training earlier in the year he became very fatigued sounds like they're juts being cautious of not going too hard too early.

Just in terms of building the effects of multiple pre seasons is my concern

WillPhill will be fine.

Looks like Ziebell isn’t going anywhere either 🧐
Yeh no offence to the gentlemen in queston, but seeing commentary on how we'll get Ziebell and Polec rolling into preseason was a bit of a "what?"

I had a car written off in front of my place once when a ute smashed into the back of it.

As I waited from the tow to turn up I didn't start thinking "might give it a quick wash and wax".

The update itself hollow.
Yeh Phillips, Bergman I’m interested. X a little.
But Ziebell and Polec shouldn’t be anywhere near the 22.

You’d think because they are listed players they would want them fit at least , even if they end up playing vfl

Look, I know. But part of me sort of hopes they see the writing on the wall and step away gracefully.

If they completely go against the grain and have wonderful 2023 seasons then that would be awesome. A 0.1% chance of happening though.

Honestly I see a positive if they get themselves right and play a bit of vfl would be a tremendous boost if we had a strong vfl side

Understand but I'd rather get genuine senior capable players onto the list instead. Polec is talented, Jack is a club lionheart but if they were uncontracted you'd imagine the club would've been urging both to retire.

Lol.

TAO's lobbying gradually pushing him over to shitmen status for you?
I think I have better hands than Xerri.
I have never rated him highly and can’t see what the club sees in offering him a 3 year deal other than to be insurance for when Todd retires. Goldi offered more at the same age as well. Pretty sure Todd kicked 5 as a 21yo and established himself as a ruckman in the process.

Yep but I just don’t see us sacking contracted players. League wide it’s not the usual done thing we just have to suck up the contracts unfortunately

Tucker 2 weeks
Clark 2 weeks
internet seriously GIF

Good to hear Logue is playing tomorrow

Tucker, Taylor and corr playing practice matches before round 1

Sounds like for round 1 atm we have a full list to choose from other than wardlaw and George and probably tarryn also (although I think he goes to court prior to round 1 so you never know, he’s still training away from the club)
